Ideally looking for a rusty complete hk with a 186 or chev with powerglide, my car is originally a powerglide car and would like to keep it that way. Would consider a ht/g but was hoping to use other hk parts on the project, thanks

Hi Dan Allen here as i have a 186 block with steel crank to suit rebuilt it is a standed block but have 60thou pistions for it but it has been setting for over 10 years or more also no head for it as it just the block crank pistion & rods if this is any help to you let me know talk soon cheers allen |

Hey thanks Allen, I would kinda be more interested in a complete vehicle as I need quite a few of the mechanical parts like linkages as well. If someone had a complete engine trans combo I may be interested especially a v8 powerglide but will look at either, thanks mate

6cyl powerglide and V8 Chev powerglide are very different boxes in mounting and linkages. HT 253/308 powerglide are a bitsa, use Chev powerglide rear housing and linkages but 6cyl case and internals. |

Thanks for the info on that, thats kinda why I would prefer a complete car mechanically so I'm not chasing bits and pieces. Car was originally a 6 cylinder powerglide car but I wouldnt knock back a 307 chev and powerglide car. Can you get a chev/powerglide on column shift?

Yes, that is the standard configuration for 307 auto for all HK-HT except GTS. If it was me fitting a Chev into an original 6cyl auto car i'd use a TH350, will fit where a V8 powerglide fits, and you just use an aftermarket kickdown cable off the carby. Will also need a V8 powerglide crossmember, tailshaft and V8 banjo centre (or yoke). You can operate it using a HT-HG trimatic column and a bit of mucking around with a HZ-WB column shift crossover setup operated by the HT-HG rod off the column. GMH didn't use the 6cyl HD-HT powerglide crossover setup for V8's I think because it interfered with the V8 exhaust on the driver's side. V8 crossover was at the rear of the powerglide. I have also heard of people using a cable setup off the column. |

Never really liked driving a 2 speed auto. Plus powerglides are getting harder to get in Australia and cost more, TH350's are a lot cheaper to buy and seem to be cheaper to overhaul. I get using the 'glide as part of a dead stock resto, but if you are upgrading to a V8 a TH350 works just as well. |

You will be hard pressed to find a good case, they are all rewted in one way or another.the low & reverse lugs have chopped the case you can use case savers but they are pretty crap really, or if the accumulator bore is gone you can sleeve it or use a modified accumulator for this problem so really, TH/350 and glide. very hard nowadays

TH350's from the US are easier to find though Frank, they were used until the 80's. |

So as far as the case being chopped out is it just a matter of looking at where the selectors come through? What about the accumulator bore? Does it have to be dismantled for that?
