Got a bit of an issue with my BF. Only way to describe it is it feels like it is pre-igniting on start up. It shakes, coughs and dies when I turn the key. After it finally finishes its little death rattle the dash lights up and it starts beeping. Turn the key to off, start it again and she fires up. Seems to run a bit rough for a second or 2 then settles down and runs fine. Is it fuel? Timing? Vacuum? Something else? It doesn't do it all the time. But it is becoming more constant. Any help or advice appreciated.

My BA does almost exactly that on LPG but never on petrol.
When was the last time the spark plugs and/or coils were replaced?
Your BF is probably gtting to an age where it could use a new set of ignition coils.

plugs were replaced about 6 months ago. Might be coil replacement time.

Mine used to stutter a bit on long steep uphills at 100kmh even on petrol when the coils were giving out.

I had a 1994 NC Fairlane that did the Death rattle, when trying to start, It would also stall when ever it felt like it. Was a part in the computer, part 203, you need a magnafineing glass to read the number on it, its small, 1/8 long 1/16 wide,,
