Thought this might be of interest. This is the standard steering box that I installed in my HK Monaro back in the 70's when the alloy housing on the original 16.7:1 unit cracked. While cleaning this unit up the other day I noted the stencilled date on the underside of the housing, which from my calcs would be around three months earlier than the stamped date on the top of the housing.

That is quite odd. A quality control or rework mark for just the casting maybe?
