Here are some pictures of the restoration of my 1975 HJ. I Purchased the car April 04 the the body of the car seemed to be pretty clean with only a few visible rust bubbles present. I drove the car around on my L's for a year and in April 05 we started to work on the rust. For the fist month or so everytime we worked on the car we found more and more rust and bog, and very soon what appeared to be a 2 month job turned into a 6 month job.



























I spent 6 months, with the help of my dad, cutting out the rust, and welding in replacement patches. 65 hours were all so put in by a friend who is a qualified pannel beater. Many hour were spent by me and my Dad cutting, grinding and shaping sheetmetal to replace the areas where the rust was removed.

I still have a few plans for my car including rims, interior and engine mods.

I hope you appreciat the work i have so far put in to my car.

would you be able to put info on it like your plans for it eg. body work, driviline and stuff like that

At the moment i have a recod red 202, dual fuel, extractors and 2" zorst(no cat or mufflers and a hot dog) it has a trimatic and stock diff(unsure of gearing)

i plan to but a new 202 and have that worked, put in a 4 speed auto(if possible) and an lsd diff(im uneducated on diff gearing so i dont know what to use.)i hope to have around 120-130 Kws at the rubber.

looks like youve done a good proper job of restoring that car. good work. im in the process of doing my hj up.. they an awesome car.
keep us informed on what your doing. you must have big plans for that 6 to get that much power. it be good to see.

hey guys just bought a set of kingsprings Super Lows, only to find out my car is already fitted with them, so now im back to the drawing board on how to lower my car more. The superlows lower it 50-60mm from standard, i wanna go another 50mm lower than it is now.
any suggestions? the guy from autobarn said i can get the springs i have now compressed.

drop axles. they will drop it another 2" at the front. for the back you might need to get custom springs made.

or air bag it.

just remember if you go too low you may have problems with spoon drains and driveways etc I had a lowered HQ and it srapped on almost everything more so with passengers. I enentually raised it back up an inch.

ive scrapped my lowering plans for the moment and putting the money towards some rims, im getting weld racing pro stars. For the moment i have put on my dragways they look sick but the chrome is up **** creek and ive learnt that the repairs anrent cheap.

Being a Huge Fan of the HJ/X/Zs I really like the finished resto hear!
I also like the factory (or close too) Paint. You see so many guys respraying there cars in a color or Tint "They" like but dont realize that it really dosnt suit the Cars style or shape.
Nah Mate, Your on a roll I reckon with having one sweet looking cruiser.

Thanks for the praises Dan. Its good to see somebody out there who likes the original paint just like i do.

And Zacwhen i get my new mags(hopefuly no longer than a month) ill get the pics up quick smart.

I still have plans to do up anotjer 202 this should come together quickly as i have just scored a weekend job paying $25p/h and it should last atleast 3 months, so ive got the finances rolling.

Thanks keith, i sure will keep it up. The old 6s are beaut ive never driven a worked 6 but ive been in a 1 tonner with mild work and it went like the clappers, cant wait to do mine up.

One question how old are you keith? ive seen in a few posts saying you were only young, just to let you know im 18.

hey ive been thinking about what to do to my engine. At the moment im thinking of buying a swag of parts over time as i get the money then buy a red 202 block and get the thing decked out. so far my list of parts has come to this:
Blue motor heads or worked heads from a red motor.
XU1 cam(unsure of where/how to find), Blue motor crank, roller rockers, blue motor manifold with 350 holley and extractors.. if i get blue heads other wise stick with red motor manifolds.
pushrods* pistons*, lifters*, bearings*, better valve springs*, electronic ignition*(possibly...unsure if it is worth doing?), blue motor dizzy, 16" thermo fan. All items matked * mean im unsure on what brand/type to buy suggestions welcome.

At the moment i have a spare red 202 complete, extractors and inlet manifold with 350 holley to suit, elec dizzy from blue motor and 16" thermo.

let me know on what you think of this setup.

It sounds like a nice Zippy Motor. Though for the Size and Weight of the Woods, I wouldnt Spend any more, Money or time on that Combination.

When choosing a Cam, Lifters, Springs, etc. Stick with a Reputable Cam Grinder, Like Crow, C.O.M.E, Waggot (Supposed to know there Sh*t regarding old red motors!) Theyll point you in the right direction. A good "Tow" Cam would help this Motor real nice.
You could get by with Cast pistons no doubt. DO use the Blue dizzy! And have it re-graphed to suit. Bearings... ACLs or equivalent , will see it all done.

Hey ive mail several cam grinders and have decided on the C.O.M.E CSBH-300 Max Efficiency cam. for the moment im going to get the cam instaled and have the heads of my spare 202 sent away and worked depending on price other wise im gonna find blue heads and manifold if that will work out cheaper. Also where can i find an adapter plate for a blue manifold to suit a 350 Holley? Would it be the same as the one on the red manifold?

Depending on what Mods have been done to your Red head previously? (Larger Valves/ Springs, Shaving, Pocket porting) It may not be worth the trouble.

Blue Heads are already fitted with Larger Valves, Have better Port configuration. (both Intake and Exhaust) and are pretty easy to adapt. But Yeah get it looked into.

Both the Manifolds from Red to Blue are totally different. Most Auto out lets Such as Auto Barn, Aussie Autos, Super Cheap(maybe?) will have the resources to get hold of the adaptor for you.

At the moment the heads i was planning on using are stock as a rock. I found a place near me that flows heads and they said blue heads all the way, even if i spend a bit of money tickling them itll be cheaper and better gains.

So i am now in search of an intake from a blue 202 and blue motor heads.

Yep, Once you find one, Have them recoed and you should be set.

For a Mild Motor, I couldnt see Porting beeing needed. Bolt on factory Power mate :)))

A bit of news on the progress on my motor, next week getting 16" thermo to replace original fan, davies craig water pump is replacing the water pump and the blue motor dizzy(temparary) is going on along with and elecric ignition.

This will keep things settled for a month or so, when ever a can save enough, the Vk injection is goin on as are the heads and pacemakers and cam. Then ill have my dizzy regraphed to suit.
