You need to run the diagnostic codes to establich what the error actually is that the light is reporting.
It could be a myriad of things.

Hello.
I have this intermittent dash lights problem also.
1998 VT. 130K ks.
A week or so back, I went over a speed hump, a tad too hard, and just managed to bump the front end on the road coming over the far side. The warning lights and beeps all came on immediately.
My reading here is highly suggestive the culprit is the abs module.
One mechanic I saw immediately suggested the abs module, without seeing the vehicle. The description was enough for him.
A second mechanic believes the wheel sensors will be the culprit. I hope hes correct as the fix is much cheaper he says.
What are the chances the wheel sensors are the fault dya think?
Cheers.

Hi boxerboy.

If you have a wheel sensor or sensor connector fault, only the ABS light will come. We then plug in our scanner & that particular item will come up as fault code.

If you have the ABS module fault many different lights will come on intermittently & the scanner often will not even communicate at all.

Sounds straight forward. Thanks for your response.
Burson sell them for $350, on an exchange basis. When you buy, they want $650, $300 of which is refunded when you return the old one.
Borgys in Sunshine, Victoria will do them for $250 exchange, add $35 if they do the exchange for you. 6 months warranty.

Unfortunately I live on the other side of town in the Ringwood area. 3-4 hour round trip by the time the job gets done.

Would anyone know of an eastern suburb place to get this done that matches Borgys price? I guess I should let my fingers do the walking huh?!

Gday Cliffy,
unfortunatly the air bag codes can only be checked and erased with suitable scan tool to stop dodgy car yards and private sellers from selling vehicles that have had the Airbags comprimised. but the ABS and the PCM codes can be manually extracted and erased. Ive got most of the info you require if you wish.

Well, I had someone assess it today, using a scanner. Once the faults were cleared and reset, it showed a fault at the auto transmission.

After some further investigation, driving and waiting for the warning lights to come on again, the diagnosis was felt to be a wiring issue, not computer related at all. I guess this may be consistent with the bump it took over a speed hump, which was the instigating force to the lights coming on.

Ill take it to a auto-elect on Monday. Ill keep yall informed of progress.

Hi all
Sons VT series 1 ABS module is gone. Yesterday he drove it ok stopped tried to start it nothing. Turning the key did nothing. You have to remove the key wait then replace key to kick the motor. Could the ABS module have taken out the BCM module??

The boy is saving up for recon ABS mod

Any help appreciated

Hi skykill50.

No, its unlikely it has done anything permanent to the BCM. What the ABS module fault does is corrupt the serial data of all the ECUs in the car. If in doubt, just unplug the ABS module & then all other functions in the car should then be normal, only the ABS (& maybe traction) light will be on.

If you still have a starting issue it maybe just a key or contact fault.

Thanks for that Dr Terry
Sorry, forgot to add in previous that the remote doesnt work now nor does central locking the car is vt series 1 acclaim traction control). Have removed fuse to reset BCM and removed ABS harness and tried both car keys.
Car tries to kick but feels that the injectors are being closed.
Will let you know re the key/contacts

Hi all
Just to keep you informed, had the bcm and ecu tested the bcm was dead actually fried was a better word, apparently the abs sent a spike which took out the bcm so I was told. New bcm ($800) and abs and the car is running like a dream. Thanks to all for your help

Ive been in no hurry to get mine sorted...dash warning lights periodically all on now.
I got myself an ABS module via ebay, on exchange for $150. Installed it tonight, and without test driving at all, the lights now all go off.
So far Im happy, but the proof will be in the kilometres done in the near future I guess.
I dont see any reason to worry however.

All fair points which I agree with.

However I am a student struggling to pay the rent, buy basic groceries and put LPG in the Commodore so $50 is way out of the bugged.

Im happy to leave the warning light on as I dont have the money to get it turned off. But I thought if there is a way I can do it myself I would give it a go.

If anyone can give me any information it would be much appreciated

Cheers Cliffy

Hi Ray, Ive recently replaced my front parker on VT wagon. Had to remove the Bat to get to the back of the headlight unit, unscrew the plastic bit on the back and reach right into the bottom to get the globe out. quite fiddley.
I replaced the globe with another with the exact same markings but it isnt anywhere near as bright as the other side. Does anyone know why this might happen?

I also have problem with VT Commodore which was today diagnosed as the ABS Control Module needing relacement. I was told the part would cost $1200 and approx. $600 labour. Sounds outrageous. Can anyone comment or give suggestions. Am in Perth WA.
