You lucky people living on the East coast...I have the same fault lights appearing on my dash of my V8,VX Calais from time to time, funny thing is that it only started the instant A pushbiker ran into my passenger front door, as the Mrs was getting out at the lights... Holden dealers over here want $785.00 to supply and fit. Does anyone know anybody who reconditions the modulators in West Oz PLEEEEZ?...

Hi Caty, dont do anything yet, I am getting many different prices and diagnosis. One chap went over a speed bump and now has the same problem, I was hit by a pushbike on the front passenger door and now have the same problem. I think changing the modual/modulator might fix the problem by resetting something minor. you may not need to buy the ABS modulator, I am still looking into it, but I think some of the Holden technicians might prefer to take the easy, more expensive way. DO NOT pay $1,200 plus $800 just yet...Peter

Here is the result.. Looks like it was the modulator/module. I bought a second hand one for $100, made sure it had all the same numbers on it, as there are about 5 different models. Bought myself a packet of TORX keys and replaced the module in 15 minutes. You will need to loosen the 2 bolts holding the main body in place to be able to lift it out of its cradle a tad to get to the bottom 2 screws and disconnect the small wiring harness underneath. Been driving it for 3 days and no problems YET!!! Also didnt need to go to a dealer to have the Tech-2 connected, everything works perfectly. Hope this helps...Cheers.

Hey everyone be very very careful prior to replacing any alternators or abs modules! 9 times out of 10 the problem is the negative earth on your alternator. Where it connects to the back of the alternator. There was a quiet recall on these (so i just found out) because when the cars were built GM used the wrong type of metal on the connection. All you need to do is replace the metal connector on the wire that connects to your alternator. It doesnt earth properly! To find out start the car and pull the wire around a bit. Your car will idle up and down like crazy!

"cliffy" you sound like a tool, as has been pointed out $50 for someone to do a code check and clear is not a rip off, and if you cant afford grocerys maybe you shouldnt be buy amps for your car. If you actually knew what you were doing the air bag light would even be on.

Hi All. I need some serious help?
I have ABS lights, Track Ctrl, Engine light, air bag, oil lights, air con does not work secondary fan goes on?
on my VT 1999 Series 2 Acclaim... Now upon reading the previous Forums I suspected it would be the ABS MODULE however I took my car to Holden and they plugged that computer thing in. Now apparently its NOT the ABS MODULE its the PIM (Program Interface Module)??? The part for this costs 1200 Bucks plus 150.00 Installation?
Am I being RIPPED off by HOLDEN? As the PIM cannot be bought second hand, and MUST be programed only by HOLDEN?
Does anyone know what the Differences between a PIM fault and an ABS fault?
I dont want this to be a costly mis diagnosis? PLEASE HELP.
THANKS HEAPS

Hi Jojo

It does sound to me like the ABS module is faulty. Give me a ring (02) 9644-2888.

To my knowledge a VT Acclaim does not have a PIM. AFAIK PIMs are only fitted to Gen3 & Gen4 V8s & Alloytech V6s. I think somebody has wrongly diagnosed your problem.

You mention being ripped off by Holden. You are not dealing with Holden, you are dealing with a privately-owned franchised dealer. I dont think any franchised dealer is in the business of intentionally ripping off their customers. In most cases these problems are caused by usually incorrect diagnosis or over-servicing. Often too, they are limited to using new genuine parts, which can be expensive, depending on their origin. They dont often get access to the reconditioned units available in the aftermarket, or they have tried some recond units before, maybe had warranty dramas & want to keep their reputation intact, so only offer the dearer alternative.

Dr Terry.

P.S. I dont work for a dealer, but do have dealings with many of them.
If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

Mate dr terry is right no pim on v6 vt, best way for you to check first if it is abs, is when the falut occurs unplug abs module (big black plug on abs unit under bonnet) if all lights go out except abs and trac lights 99.9% chance abs nodule faulty

Jojo, as you may have already read, but not comprehended, you problem is the same as the one I had. I too had many diferent diagnosis and huge quotes. Get yourself a secondhand ABS module and wack it in. You dont need the hole unit, just the black electrical side which you can unscrew with a torx key. The job should take you less than 20 minutes and your car will run perfectly. Just make sure the part number stamped on the main body is exactly the same as the one you are removing. If it doesnt fix the problem, you have onlt lost about $50. Good luck...

Dr Terry, Clint and Peter thank you very much for your help. When I googled PIM for holden faulty I did not get any hits that is the main reason why I decided to ask you all. Apparently the PIM is located in the right hand kick panel of the car?? No idea?? I unplug the abs and see how I go there, I am on Gas so my trac ctrl light is always on when I run her on gas anyway, so might put her to petrol and give that a go.
What really ticks me off is I put my baby in for a standard oil change and basic service and she developed this problem on the way home from picking it up from the Mechanic!! :( There is no way of proving these things but its a bit of a co incidence if you ask me?
Another quickie... do you think it might be worth my while taking her to an auto elec.? If yes, do you have any suggestions to where I am located in Melbourne, eastern sub, but would travel if its a good deal
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH
Jojo ;)

Peter:
That sounds like a fantastic plan, if I knew what the hell a Torx Key was, and if I knew where to pick up a second hand abs unit? LOL LOL.... I feel like such a chick right now!
Your not in Melbourne by any chance??
Thanks again for ya help.

Hello All.
I unplugged my ABS thing today and went for a drive my abs and trac lights stayed on (as expected) LOL. I rang 3 other holdens and they confirmed that I did not have a PIM.
My holden in at first tried to tell me that i did have a PIM and that the person who told me they didnt should learn about cars and not try mislead me! HAHA!! and then I explained that they should ring head office and confirm with them that I have a PIM.
Yes. They were trying to rip me off, it was booked in for Wednesday! to get a PIM replacement???? Hows that possible when I dont have a PIM! LOL!... Thanks for all your help, my car is now booked in on Monday with an auto elec who said depending on what is wrong with the abs module it could cost me anywhere from 50 - 450 bucks, alot better than the 1200 + 150 Holden quoted me!
YOU ALL SAVED ME ALOT OF BUCKS AND STUFFING AROUND! THANKS HEAPS ;)

This is for Peter. Re West Coast ABS Modules.

Yup its taken me 4 months to find a seller. I dont have the number on me but "Precision (Auto)Electrics) in Welshpool do them for $200. Theyre in that are bordered by Orong Rd, Oats St and Albany HWy. Im in the middle of removing my ABS to bring it in for the swap service.

Forgot to mention, I live in western Sydney, not being mean but it feels good to see others have had the same problem, which assists us all in helping eachother and diagnosis, Damn forums are good!!! But yeah,, mine has been pretty intermitent, but now is more common then not! its very frustrating, i HATE when things arent running right, but, these things happen and we learn from them! Any assistance would be greatly appricated. I tried to unplug the large black plug ontop of the module behind the little cover, had not much louck, but i was rushing too.
Who can help me in aquiring a re-co module and fitting???
Cheers, Paul

I unplugged the little 2 pin plug on the bottom, to see how it went, dame light remained on. When i plugged it back in, all ok. Took it for a drive down the back dirt road and pumped it,,,traction control worked, hit the brakes, and yes the ABS worked, however i feel it will fail again. Grrrr
