Hi Dodgy Dave, thanks for the research and info Dave. Mine is still going fine after replacing it with the second hand one, but I will keep the info in case it ever happens again. $200 sounds cheap for a reconditioned one...maybe its one of those "kero recond" jobs and the just hope it doesnt come back for 12 months... Hi All. Just read what I wrote about the abs modules. Thought that I would mention that I did NOT go to an auto electrician I went to EBAY and bought a re-co $140.00 installed!!
Now nearly 3 months later NO Problems and the bloke offered me a 2year warranty.

Dont forget guys your abs system does a self check when you turn your car on. So if the goes out and comes on later gives you a quick insight that it could be the abs module.

Hi all Im a first timer to this forum.I have the same problem with the lights. I have disconnected the Abs module and some of the lights go out but not the ABS light. The check eng goes out, air bag goes out, eng oil light goes out but the ABS stays on, trac control on and low traction light comes on.
Any ideas..

Hi david.

Yes, that is correct. If you disconnect the main ABS connector, everything else should return to normal & only the ABS light (& TRAC light if fitted) will come on. If this is what happens, then the ABS module is at fault.

My wifes Calais has the same problem. Replaced the BCM 12 months ago ($900), now the Holden dealer wants another $850 to replace the ABS module. The Brock Shop (Brisbane) is doing it for $600 fitted.

hi all,
my vt has the same problem with lights on dash abs, traction control, airbag, oil light, fan constantly on. I have removed the wiring from the abs module but no change. i have also removed all the wiring connections and sprayed them with contact cleaner. Took it to a mechanic and they couldnt get a reading on the diagnostics so they couldnt give me a quote to repair.
What is my next step?

If you unplug the ABS module, everything should be back to normal, except that the ABS & TRAC lights will both be on. I would double check this part of your diagnosis.

Normally, if the ABS module is faulty you will not be able to communicate with using a scanner.

You may have some other (lesser) fault with your car, but my gut feeling is that you need another ABS module.

Have a vt commodore whick is driven mostly by my wife.The train and traction contol lights have been coming on intermitently sometimes they stay on sometimes they go off. At the same time the power steering becomes heavy.
I have taken the vehicle for test drives but the problem just fails to show

Dr Terry you were spot on.
got an abs module off a vy and plugged in the electrics and all is gone except for traction off. abs works and fan only comes on when needed. Any idea how to get rid of the traction off light. and by the way yes i did try pressing it on and off.

Mark, you cant use a VY ABS module on a VT, they are not compatible.

The part number on the ABS module you fit, must be the same as the unit you removed (or a genuine supersession).

Your VT, if it was a V6 had a 0 273 004 348 (or 485), you can only replace it with one of these two.

will it effect anything if i leave it there until i get a replacement or should i remove it now?

figure this one for me if you can my vx commodore comes up to temp the radiator fans turn on and the wipers and blinkers turn by them selves and when the thermo fans turn off every thing goes back to normal and when the fans turn on again it all it plays up all over again

My 2000 VT Calais is doing exactly the same thing, except the steering gets really hard, as if the power steering goes. I took it to Holden and they said it came up with a code 74, buit werent positive, so they cleared it all and asked me to go back in when it comes up again. ill be going in this arvo, as it happenend about an hour after i left holden.

Hi snakus99

I would fix the ABS lights problem first, the power steering fault may or may not be related.

The reason the ABS causes many different faults throughout the car is that the various ECUs communicate with each other on the so-called CANBUS line. This means that strange things can occur with a/cond, transmission, airbag, instruments, engine (& related bits) & just about anything connected with the body computer.

As I said fix the ABS first & check operation of the rest of the car. If any other fault remains, repair it separately.

I think it may be related, becasue the power steering is fine until the engine lights come on. and the very first light to come on is the ABS light.

my 2000 VT Calais is doing the exact same thing, when the fault appears, driving or just starting the car up in the morn, I lose power steering, traction control, cruise control, the engine idle goes all screwy, lose dash readouts for temp, not to mention the christmas tree lights. When I unplug the Connector going into the ABS Module, all the lights and car functions work without a hitch except for ABS, Traction Control and Cruise Control (which I guess wont go because ABS has failed - turns on, but wont engage.) Have been driving with the connector off, so hopefully havent damaged anything. no other option for me though. only have 1 car.

I am in the process of aquiring a recon abs module to solve this (with the help of this forum thread), hopefully it works out well, is there any guides on how to remove the module from the ABS Pump? I would be able to figure it out eventually, Just want to save time on that part.
