Thanks no guards are not NOS but are rust free, radiator support is NOS..sills are solid and will only need prep work for paint. only real rust that is left to do is top of quarters near passenger windows, bottom of rear window and cowl at the front..wheel well and other bottom of quarter are very good..so the quarters are in really good shape. Floor rust replacements have been done. cheers Paul |

thanks motor is mildly worked so went with the performer manifold..rocker covers arent original for HK either...just a taste thing and i had them lying around so thought id put them to good use ;) Started the engine for the first time a couple of weeks ago and new exhaust is fitted...runs really nice. Now the running gear is done its time to start on the body. |

Hey mate, looking very nice. Ive got my first project on the way and was just wondering if you could tell me the sanding technique you use to get it to bare metal?
Do you just use wet and dry or an orbital sander?
If using wet and dry do u step down the grain size as you go and what grain sizes do you use at certain stages?
Cheers mate.

99% rust free all thats left to do is the sections near the cowls (might just see them cut out in this pic) ready for high fill next week, so hopefully paint not too far away. |

sorry VL05 just seen your query. My way of getting it bare metal was the dirty way with a good paint stripper. Some might cringe at this but i buy the stripper from Bayford Paint section in Campbellfield, im sure all Ford dealers use the same stuff. Very potent it burns when it gets on skin, gloves are a must. Tough areas i use wire brush on a drill or angle grinder. Or the easiest way as some might mention is sandblasting

Hi Bluez , cars coming along very nice.It will look excellent.Just wondering how hard it was to line up the doors and guards etc.I got a HG that looks like Stevie Wonder bolted together....doors dropping etc.Was told there was the wrong amount of packers in some areas. Was it easy to get it right?

gday walrus sorry for the late reply. Getting the gaps right in these old cars are a bit of a nightmare, alot of fiddling around adjusting door hinges, strikers and guards. Not sure what you mean by "packers" but if your door is dropping you might need to adjust the hinges and lift it up and at the same time getting your gap correct between your front guard and rear quarter (im assuming you have a monaro). Like i said its alot of fiddling about tightening and loosening bolts, could take 10 - 15 goes but in the end youll get there. Good tip is when repairing doors and guards you must sub assemble the car, put on the door, guards, bonnet and make sure you are getting yours gaps and lines inline. Helps for when you go to bolt the parts on for the last time you dont get any suprises and have to rework things. I havent uploaded any pics lately, just been to busy working on the car, It has come a long way from these photos. Its at the point now that i have gotten a cover note to drive it to places to get things done that i cant do. Regards Paul |
