g,day..
i recently done a head on a 2002 astra that broke a cambelt and bent all valves not including my 16 hours labour the total parts bill was about $3000.
as for chemi weld this stuff if used by directions is brilliant! I have used this on four different occasions for cracked heads,blown head gaskets and cracked radiators with complete success.One of my vehicles ive been driving for 2 1/2 years about 30000km with a cracked head after using chemiweld and it doesnt miss a beat

What happened in the end for you Adam #1? or did u just get the car running smooth and ofload?
Touchwood I havnt had a problem with the Vectra in the past and have had it for more than 6 years.

My mate had an auto Vectra. It used to have heaps of problems with it- the ABS light would come on for no apparent reason and on one occasion, we were at a servo and couldnt get it out of park. We changed the fuse and it was OK. The car is now owned by his sister. She has told me that once she was travelling at high speed along the M5 in Sydney and then all of a sudden, the car lost power and shutdown.
My advice - sell it. The Vectra/Astra is the modern day version of the early Camira.

You take that back. One of the most reliable, cheapest, easiest, practical and economical cars I ever owned was a Camira. I sold it to a mate who couldnt drive his STi becase of a broken leg and needed an automatic. Everytime I saw him he wouldnt stop raving about how good it was. They have nothing in common with Euro trash like the Astra/Vectra. Adam, youd be lucky to get $5g even if it was in perfect working order. Old Vectras are worth nothing.

I am sorry I wont take that back...the Camira was a lemon.
My stepfather had a Camira as a company car, he worked for St George Building Society at the time, now St George Bank. He used to continuous problems with his yellow front wheel drive Camira and so did alot of his colleagues, who had Camiras. However, I do know of a well-known mechanic, who uses this forum and has a Camira. I think his is a later model Camira...thats why I said the early Camira.

Well its true both the Camira and Vectra are GM "J" cars.
Adam sold his Vectra on eBay years ago with "suspect head gasket problems" written in the listing.
If at first you dont succeed then skydiving is not for you. |

vecta owners! be aware that vectras have a big problem with the heat exchanger inside the water jacket it was manufactured poorly. it corrodes inside the water jacket and leaks oil into the coolant. they now replace it with a stainless steel exchanger au$800. check you model do not think it is your head gasket at first. pressure test the head but chances are (99 percent) it is the heat exchanger dont let them tell you its the head only to find out at great cost it is the exchanger.

This is only on V6 engine Vectras. The 4-cyl Vectras (which are by far the most common) have a normal cooling system set-up. Like any engine with an alloy head on a cast iron block, head gaskets will always be a problem. Dr Terry |
