Hi Dr Terry,

Well now Mr Howard is the EX-PM, do you think KEVIN_07 might trust the plebs with shotties ?? LOL
Probably doesnt even know what a V8 is.....no doubt to be banned under the KYOTO plan. However I do
like the concept in a perverse and humourous way.

If you really feel upitty about some cars take a look at TOP GEARs
"CLARKSON, the GOOD, the BAD, the UGLY".

What those guys do to a PRIUS is neat. Closest thing I will ever get to firepower these days.

Cheers John

Glad my daily driver is a VW Beetle. Around the city 40-45W low beam is fine, and I drive on 55W high beam when necessary (although still a very yellow light). I am safe from the bright light vigilante groups.

I agree the bright lights do annoy me immensely, and I have often jumped out at the lights to explain to a driver in front of me that their ultra bright rear foglight is unnecessary to be on (on with front ones). I have also explained to some drivers that their driving lights are giving my neck sunburn, and that they are not at the airport requiring coming in with their aircraft landing lights on. I think it is arrogance or ignorance, or a combination of both.

The ones who claim ignorance need to be smacked over the back of the head! All late model cars with fog loghts have to have a visual indication in the dash to show when they are on.

But then again, there are morons out there who ignore lights.....Duh! Whats that little light for.....er....dunno... maybe its the engine oil light, lets drive it 200km to the next dealership......

And then theres even worse ones who simply cannot claim ignorance - the X3 model Hyundai excel foglights (you know those shocking single ones on the rear) are on a MOMENTARY latching switch - which means every single time you turn the car off, they shut off, and you have to physically press the switch to turn them on each & every time yourself.

Cheers,

Mick

I changed my signature to my current one because of a visit we had from my Wifes cousin and her spoiled brat husband from Brisbane.

He drove me into to town to get dinner in the VY Berlina that they have just bought. He got back to the car before me and started it up. I told him that his fog lights were on & he answered that it allows him to see better.

Well that was like red rag to a bull I told him that it was illegal and he just said heaps of people do it. I then went on to tell him that he has the **** you Jack Im alright attitude that yes he can see better but is dazzling every other driver coming the other way. My "tirade" continued by me stating that I could see much better if I drive with high beam on all the time but I would not do that.

These "fog" lights are even worse when reflected up off a wet road. Anyone else noticed to that its usually the BMW, Nissan, Subaru or Korean car drivers that are the most frequent offenders?

Mick I agree whole heartedly on the subject of the rear flog (deliberately miss spelled) light on the back of X3 Hyundais they are enough to give you a headache after a couple of minutes following them. I did not realise that you had to turn those back on every time you start the car.

A good way for state governments to raise revenue would be for them to direct the police to book people for driving with their fog lights on when its not foggy..

Wet road reflections - they had slipped my mind as I havent had that prob for some time...... :-)
But yes, I agree - the reflected light off a wet road makes it difficult to see in already poor conditions, and it is a big problem with those fog lights that dont have a proper wide beam that is cut top & bottom - usually styling only allows the light engineers to work with a beam that they can cut the top off, but not the bottom - and thats normally quite OK until you hit a wet road....

Mick

well all I can say Robbo, is,>>> nothing has changed with>> "cool", since I was a young upstart. we used to drive around with the back open on our wagons, and vans, sucking in all the exhaust fumes, getting distracted by the fox tail on the antenna flowing in the airstream, from our incredibly fast cars!!!
eg,,186 in a HD van,,whoa, fast,!!! 179 in an eh wagon!!! virtually greased lightning?
pity the cars are not as fast nowadays,,hey.

The thing is, the generation who grew up back then werent putting other motorists in danger by having the tailgate up (or the wagon window down) and fox tails were far from dangerous to other road users.

These days the attitude is "stuff everyone else, thats their problem"

Consideration for others on the road was alive & well 20 years ago, now its vanished - its turned into a selfish, arrogant attitude.

Cheers,

Mick

Yes there is a major lack of consideration on the road but dont just pont the finger at younger drivers either a lot of the drivers from 20 years ago are just as bad to day and I do not understand why. All I can put it down to is everyone is in a rush to get no where fast, there is a major lack of patiance on the raod. As I say to my daughter dont rush if you sit on the speed limit and someone else does 20ks over the limit its going to take them a whole hour just to get 20ks in front of you, whats the point? But I must admit I do hate the people that do 20ks under the limit as it backs traffic up and causes driver to become fustrated, especialy if it is a section of road where it next to inpossible to over take. But once again patiance as at least your still heading in the direction you want to go in, all be it a little slow. Living in the country I do plenty of Highway driving and when it comes to holiday time you can pick the city drivers and/or week end drivers (as they catch the bus to work Monday to Friday)they seem to have a lot of trouble contoling their cars on the open road at 100/110ks. White line hugging is another problem and I have a laught to my self when these type of people come accross a truck coming in the other direction, they tend to slow down and swerve to the left real quick but as soon as the truck it gone........... Any way I could go on like this for ages but the point being is: yes road curtsey is almost non existant.

When the green flag drops the bulls@#t stops!!

I tried that with a Torana Hatch that was bloody funny because if you went much over 40 or 50 the wind would shut the tailgate.

Hey commodore nut,,
it may have been very dangerous driving around with the fox tail??
cause if you drove past a bunch of beagles, they might have taken off after the foxtail,,?? could have had mayhem? 101 beagles chasing an eh wagon with a foxtail????????
witches hollow>> i find the people who drive 10>20klm under speed limit, dont,,! when there is a place to overtake them,?
and time and time again, i see people trying to get past them, in safe places, as the slow driver,s speed up.!!! making it harder to get past them?
cheers

To rehash a two year old thread. Driving back from Ballarat on Sunday just north of Albury one of those big overhead electronic signs was telling drivers to "only use fog lights in adverse weather conditions fines apply at other times" or words to that effect.

Vandals and graffiti "artists" do everyone a favour and target parking meters and fixed speed cameras only.

Too true BCB, if you are still around.

These people will happily sit on 90 in a single lane 100 zone, but as soon as they get to an overtaking lane they speed up so that you have to do 120 to get past the mongrels.

Why do people do that?

Unfortunately the grey area is the term "Driving Light" and the term "Fog Light". It is easy to say a yellow front light or a single bright rear red light is a "Fog Light", but with twin white front lights it gets harder to prove that the lights on are sh%tting off anyone else coming towards them are not allowed.

Just think about what you are doing? Is it that cool tool that you have to do it? Drive and whine about other drivers too slow, too fast, too bright, too noisy, whatever. Set an example. Switch the w%nker small d1ck lights off and drive seriously, and have respect for others on the road.

I only have poor little 35W low, 45W high main headlights, so I am doing my bit.
