The Sandman owners club Website at www.sandmanowners.com seems to have been removed. I dont know the guy who ran it personally but have spoken to him once over the phone. He did have a Sandy van which he sold. He was then restoring another HX van but this ended up on ebay recently unfinished so he may not have the interest any more. It would be great to see another club set up and I would be a happy member.

Also looking to set up a run from Melbourne to Anglesea or Lorne over the summer months if anyone is interested?

Why is it that so many people think that Sandmans are just panelvans?
Ive had a HQ Sandman ute for years and its surprising the amount of people that dont even know that Sandman utes exist. Then theirs other people that think all HQ onward panelvans are Sandmans.

Whats even worse is that most think all sandmans were V8s. I have only ever seen one L6 sandy & that was in a wrecking yard 13 years ago, chrome yellow HQ van, 202 4 speed full stripes & gts gear, even had its books, damn shouldve taken it for the $600 they wanted.

Old bloke walked up to me when I bought my HZ Sandman ute at a farm clearing sale and said to me "its a fake, they never made these you know" and when I picked up its original sales papers and brochure with the white Sandman ute pic on the back and showed him he said "Nah its still a fake never made em!!??. I am now selling that ute. Its a HZ Sandman 253 4 speed with A/C Opaline Blue genuine 63000K on clock untouched, unrestored in amazing condition, currently residing in the Holden museum in Echuca. I dont know of a more genuine low K example around. I also have a gunmetal grey genuine HQ 202 4 speed Sandman van, currently stripped for resto. for sale as well. If anyone is interested email [email protected]

I went to a servo the other day to fill up.The young fella (in his 20s) behind the counter asked my why i had called my van Sandman".

The other attendant smacked him across the back of the head, called him a d/head, and told him that they were the in thing in the 70s/80s.

Gee the youth of today.

Is there any need or desire for a purely dedicated Sandman forum?
I ask because I can put together a site and forum pretty quickly from my end, but theres no point if there is no need.

Thoughts?

I dont see the need, there is more Sandman information available here on Fastlane than anywhere else on the web. Why begin another (smaller) forum.

If you have too many forums, each of them will be too small to be relevant.

Yes there has been heaps of info on here for Sandman enthusiasts. Its just a matter of trawling through the pages.

No, this forum, http://majesticvanners.forumotion.com/ is purely for panelvan enthusiasts centred in NSW and have a common interest in panelvans whether its Sandmans, EHs, FJs, Valiants or dare I say it, Fords.

Dr Terry, With all the Sandman info on here, is anyone going to do anything with it. Book? Catagorise it? It would be wasted if it all got lost and would have to have the most info about Sandmans anywhere, as you say.

It must hold the record for the most looked at thread on a motoring forum.

I rang GMH one day chasing info, but they say they havent got any records of Sandmans.
But the problem is, if you want to find out anything now it has got so huge, that you can spend hours trawling through it in the hope that you can find the info that your looking for.

I would be more than happy to put together a web site as I am keen to have a central location for sandman related stuff. I have a heap of pics, brochures, colour charts etc worth publishing in one space. Most of the stuff has been collected online over the past couple of years but it would be great to have a central site of useful info, pics etc.

Having said that, I am certainly not the expert and would need help with content.

It would be great to have a new Sandman club to go along side with this as there is now nothing around. Not sure on the level of interest though.

If others are interested and in the process I would be happy to lend a hand in the areas I do have some knowledge. E.g setting up web site.

That is exactly what I was doing with the Sandman website I have, but the data and brochures etc has grown too big, to the stage where I have decided to put it into a book. So far the HQ chapter is underway. The rest is happening as I get time.

The colour quoted for the ute was Jasmine yellow. I thought this was only on the HZ models as well.
