The red van is being sold as a "HOLDEN HX SANDMAN VAN - MANDARIN RED"
and the Yellow ute is being sold as "HOLDEN HZ SANDMAN UTE - JASMINE YELLOW"
so colours are correct and front ends are correct .
I have emailed Biante regarding the mirrors and the Grille..

there reply
.............................................................
"Hi Carl.

Thanks for the feedback. I have forwarded your comments on to our R and
D department for their review.

Best regards."

.............................................................................................

Id love to see the other development pics to see what else can be fixed prior to production

I say bring it on. I have spent hours trawling reading and looking for Sandman info. Put it all on one forum and make it great, by the amount of hits this site gets the sandman site/forum could be anything.

MIRRORS???

I was looking through Van Action mag(vol 3) and they review the new hx Sandman ute and van, the van has colour coded mirrors and the ute hasnt..Maybe the mirror colour depends on the plant that it was made...or just optioned by the dealer...

Byron, that would be a great book. Ill put my order in now.
By the time you have the book done, it might be time to put my ute back together. It has been off the road for 5 years now for restoration.

BTW, that Sandman thread of yours must be just about a record breaker for the amount of people that have looked at it

HX production option availabilty document shows for both XX7 and XU3 van and ute:

Black painted Lukey "slim line" left and right hand door mirrors.

Similar documentation for HZ shows the mirrors as painted.

Im looking for scans on the web of Sandman brochures, publicity pics or fliers of models between HQ-HZ.

If you are prepared to email them or post a link it would be appreciated.

Im currently collecting them for my book. Theyll all be in there when its done. If you buy the book called "The HOLDEN Collection" most of the brochures are in there. There is one on Ebay at the moment. Gold in colour on the cover, by AC Bushby.

hey guys
I am new to this site as i have a what i think is a genuine 1977 hz sandman that i bought a few months back selling as a hz panevan. I did a lot of research especially from you guys and realise this guy i bought it from in melb didnt even know.(thanks guys) so i bought it for a bloody bargain and had it trucked to perth. now from what i gather its all spot on apart from the continued headlining? now does that mean its not ment to have a lip in the roof from where the cab joins the panelvan? would apreciate any info.
Just a little info what i will be doin to this pride of mine, i will be restoring it from scratch to the most oringinal as ya can get. it is according to the plates that its a panama green, with body trim 1931 63 v and has a 4 spd on the floor with a 253 block.
I hope to keep you guys all posted on the process as i go through with it. may take some patience lol.
this is yet the best site i have come across.

cheers Karl

Karl, no full length headlining in HZ means no Sandman. Have a look at the picture of the attachment strip on my website.

Hey Byron
yeah thats what i would have thought. great info there mate. so if i give ya the details would ya be able to tell if genuine? according to wat you have on ya site is corresponded with the details of my van?
the only thing i havent got oringinal is the gts mags and steering wheel which i can get. also where the white paint has worn i can see where it used to be panama green which i thought they only did in the sandmans? i keep thinking the only reason why its hard to determine the outcome of these vans is that it was like a limited edition as to whack on extras to get rid of to stock of vans in the day. would you agree on that? any cheers for ya help mate.

Congrats on picking up a Sandman, and at a bargain and many years of pleasure in restoration and driving!

Youre obviously a man keen on a bargain when he sees one.. can I offer you a custom toilet seat?

As Jason says XU3 guarantees Sandman. Rare one too, I have bugger all XU3s recorded. Most are XX7. If you can email me the rest of the ID and ill record it on the register.
They werent built to get rid of stock. Sandman was an option from 1/74 so they were well entrenched by HZ. The vehicles would have been earmarked as Sandmans way before they got anywhere near the line, especially in HZ as the ID plates had to be ordered from Fishermans Bend for each days upcoming production, and a HZ XX7 Sandman van has a unique GVW. Plus some of the the earlier examples in HZ had unique trim. And the headlining strips had to be attached. And the prduction broadcast sheet made up ready for production that showed all the Kingswood trinkets like chrome tail-light surrounds, chrome scuff plates, GTS nose, Kingswood grille badge etc etc etc.
