Well its been a while so i thought I should post some pics of the sandy.
Original caribbean Turquoise metallic 308 HZ sandman. Still in her original stripes.

This is how she looked when i got her up in Tamworth.

Interior had seen better days....

Still in her pyjamas... Lookin a bit sunbaked.

Brought her home to meet her partner in crime in Ballarat who has since been sold off.

So it was up the side of the house and get those crappy panels off.

And get a decent engine in. Obviously not the original 308 but Im not precious... Bits painted up and a new swaybar too

So then I got me a donor HJ statesman. Pity to wreck it cos it was in great nick but ah well...

Thankyou very muchly

Then to treat the nice inland rust free floors as theyre now living in ballarat where it actually rains. Sometimes...

New carpet and a freshly painted console.

Then it was time to attack the back.

Gotta get rid of all that crappy glue.

Then seeing as no one seemed to know what the colour in the back of a panel van is, (including me) I went and got some colour matched and made into cans.

I also made up and painted new wooden bits for the seat backs as the originals were knackered...

Came up fairly acceptable. Not a show car but a bit better than a dunger methinks.

Got the wheels nicely restored and painted and new tyres to go with.

And the engine bay is lookin better, but still in need of work.

Now shes ready to have the GTS mirrors put back on, after I get a bit of panel beating done where some piece of human excrement slime stole my last GTS mirrors by twisting them off, and then some minor body attention and a spoiler fitted. Then she'll hopefully be ready for the big expensive one. The paint job...

Looks like a good project there. Is it all genuine. Why not have a go at painting it yourself.....go on be brave. Should give you hours of enjoyment in the resto, and even more when complete.

Keep it going,

Cheers Trev.
Id like to have a go at painting it myself but its a metallic finish so I think its something ill really need to leave to the experts. Yep its an original sandman, however it doesnt have the original engine and its on a different chassis. As you can see in the pics it was a bit smacked around and the bloke who had it before me hit a stump and banged it up a bit.

Sheez a touch n feel for a whole can of the correct colour. damn Im a few months too late. I had to get them made into spray packs. Took 8 of them to do the whole back just in case anyone is interested... Probably a lot more expensive than a 1 litre can too...

Hi mate. I got them from the guy from the adelaide sandman club. Not sure how many sets they have left as they did a limited run. I bought another set a while back which ive posted some pics of on my van below. They are really great quality and I was very pleased with em.

Not sure if they would sell just the tailgate though. There is also lesser quality sets available on ebay too.

His email is - [email protected]
