Always rinse out a newly removed radiator so that the rust and scale is washed out instead of drying to a hard crust inside the radiator.
If at first you dont succeed then skydiving is not for you. |

Dr Terry , Deja vu only comes in one flavor ,and thats again.Wheres your tip?I still need one from you and Byron and Warren and 2000 other blackbelt teachers.lol...ps Is there any treatment (like chemical) for radiators when you take them out for a while? It was a joke !! Most of it has been covered, but my best advice is not to take shortcuts. Do the job once properly. When doing brakes, have the cylinders re-sleeved in stainless. When doing an engine, pull it down once & do it properly. Dont patch things up unless you absolutely have to, you will always have to re-do it. Another handy thing for rebuilds (along with the little plastic baggies) is ice cream containers and old toothbrushes.
When you come to use the items bagged up (like "dashboard screws" etc) put them into an ice cream container - easier to fish about in and you can see them all at once. A toothbrush is handy to give items a final scruffing before fitting.

when rebilding a motor allways check oil pikup to sump clearance.
Make sure its not too high in the sump or to close to the bottem of the sump.

Beware of "helpful mates".
While many are seriously offering help to rebuild your car, there are many instances where everyone helps pull it apart, but when the tedious hardwork starts, the enthusiasm runs out.
Often this ends in cars being left in the too hard basket, sometimes ending up in the dump or sold as parts and unfinished projects.

go to a carpet shop and ask them for the old carpet they are goin to throw away,
and carpet the floor of your shed with it,as you will be living in there for the next 3-4 years......
it makes it more cozzy.

I have found using some granite that was cut out for the sink in my kitchen has been the best for mixing up bog,Just comes straight off with a razor blade when its dry and its as good as new to go again.
I wish i had a bigger shed to rescue the forgotten future of our past ! |

My brother in law was taping up his assembled EFI 308 for a quick shot of paint before dropping it in and we were discussing the finer points of masking stuff off and I said to him why dont you use the Blue tape that Chip uses. He then said when Im doing something on a car I sometimes ask myself "What would Chip do?" Sometimes those TV shows use dodgy methods cos there Seppos but sometimes you see some brillant stuff. James
