Hi folks, as good engineers we are taught that good documentation is the basis for any successful project. We are also taught not to re-invent the wheel. I would like to take this opportunity to invite expressions of interest in a classic Holden database. This database will have the potential of becoming a commercial enterprise and all contributors will retain full legal rights to their work and will potentially earn income from their input through royalties.

The aim of this project is to document the assembly/disassembly of popular old Holdens.

The idea is to be able to click on an area of a 3D CAD Generated Holden body and see progressively finer detail of not only the assembly but tips and tricks on the disassembly/recondition/assembly process.

I would be very interested to accept contributions and opinions relating to this project. The project is beginning with a HG Monaro I am restoring and documenting. You should note that any and all original work is automatically protected by Australian and International copyright laws, so you should not be in fear of having your work reproduced illegally, however it is intended that some degree of information will be made freely available through sites such as Fastlane, although it is expected that a subscription type model will be employed, along with a hard-copy version.

Many of us are appreciative of the amount of knowledge held by certain high-profile members of this forum and others, and this is an attempt to consolidate this knowledge along with just as much vital information from everyday contributors.

My primary motivation is good documentation without having to document something that has already been done - this is where a lot of time can be wasted.

I have attached a simple example of where this project could begin in the form of HG Front Indicator. The possibilities of where this could go are virtually unlimited as far as part numbers, dimensions, interchangeability etc go.

The aim is not to reproduce workshop/parts manuals, more to enhance and add to what is already available. For example, a transmission crossmember could be 'clicked on' in various places to reveal bolt sizes, dimensions, etc. The aim is to produce rotatable 3D CAD drawings in Solid Edge/Solid Works from all contributions which will be converted to Flash/HTML, so proficiency in graphics is not required - scans of line drawings with dimensions are acceptable, and lots of photo's would be great.

If you feel this is a worthy project, please don't hesitate to post your thoughts here. If you would like to make a specific contribution then please feel free to forward your documentation to hg80737 at gmail dot com.
