Just wondering if anyone has a list of the the actual Casting Numbers stamped on the Delco shockers as to the equivalent Parts book Delco Shocker Numbers . I am sure it would have been in some GMH Service Bulletins or internal Paperwork . I have recorded nearly every shocker number from FJ tp HG but have more numbers than the parts book show and of course as the numbers dont match its hard to work out which is which . Hope someone can help .

Hi,

Im sure I have read something on here in regard to shock numbers in the past, but unfortunately the search function is pretty much useless as many topics go off on a tangent to the point where useful information is rarely under the relevant topic.

I learnt a lot about the shocky numbers from Ben Stewart. The number stamped into the shock absorber is the part number contrary to what many others will tell you. The numbers listed in parts catalogues are for shocky kits and not for the shocky itself. You also must remember that the items used in the factory were seldom available after the cars were built. There is a big difference between assembly line parts and replacement parts. There were more different types of shockys used on the initial build of cars than were serviced as spare parts at a later stage. This is why you have found more part numbers on shocks than there are listed in the parts books. I know in HQ that the parts books are very wrong if you are trying to source the correct items for your car. The little stickers found on original shockys will help here. Keep up the great work you are doing with parts for these cars.

Thanks D.A , i do understand the number on the shock is the real number , and the number in the book is just an ordering number as such (bit like many cast parts which the casting numbers and parts book numbers are different)and you may be right about there being more codes than the book says , hence why the internal Holden Numbers/codes would give it all up. I do have some Production line Picking labels off the shocks ,but not enough to work out whats what as you need all the build sheets also . Just a curiosity thing as i have a good collection of the shocks .

Hello James,

I can provide you with a list of all the items used from HK through HQ Holdens. These come from the assembly line manuals for these models. Ill post them here next time I visit Tony.

Gee Frank it must be a sad existance when your pride is ghosting forums and getting joy out of either not being spoken about or being ridiculed! Oh to aspire to such great depths.
And finally we have a result a gentleman of great character is willing to help another with his knowledge the real purpose of the forum. Hats off to Mr Ben Stewart, a gentleman that doesnt blow his own whistle.
