In Feb 2008 I bought a Rare Spares/VDO sender GMH part number 7438478 to suit a HK V8 with gauges.

In Feb this year I finally installed the sender & gauge cluster. Temp gauge only got as far as 140 F with the thermostat open.

Thought the sender would be OK and the gauge might be suspect, so I had the cluster serviced at a VDO instrument repairer.

Reinstalled the cluster last week, still the same.

Took the sender over to the VDO shop today and the tech said it was not the correct sender.

He went through his sender books and came up with a requirement for one with an ohmic value of 315 - 22.

I showed him a print out of the one you are now selling under that part number. He suggested I ask you what it's ohmic value is, because it won't work correctly if it's not the same or very close to 315 - 22 ohms.

Can you set the record straight here please.

Sorry for the delay in replying as I have been off work for a few days. This product was a buy in originally from National Parts the largest parts wholesaler at the time, they are now defunct. Any chance we had to find out the ohmic value is long gone we will never know if it was a one off or a problem with all of them. We do not generally check parts that are readily available as we expect the wholesaler to do so as we do with our parts. We have in our company a quality system that requires us to put in a report on any product that is deemed incorrect this particular product has never appeared on this report before now.
From February 2008 until October 2008 we had no supplier for this product, the omhic value of the current unit has no bearing on the one in question, however we are having it checked as TD said.

Les,

I ordered a new sender before I went back to the VDO shop, hence the question re the ohmic value of the one you are now selling.

Cheers,
Bob.

Hi Les,

New sender fitted, wiring checked by auto elec, gauge checked by VDO shop, both still pointing the finger at each other. So I will ask the question in the Holden forum.

Thanks.

The sender in the Rares online cattledog is the correct one.

The ohmic value of these things is some sort of KGB secret, plenty of senders look the same but aint.

Anyway alls well that ends well.
