I was told by my f-wit brother in law years ago there is no money in cars they only burn a hole in your pocket hehe, 15+ years on sorry to say it but my shed is full of classics and they are maturing better then my house and super, so tell me whats better to have a shed full of cars that i can drive and enjoy, or a list of shares, or a fat super fund that both of them have fallen in past months
Brother in law thanks for your advice as always ur a knob

The HK went from 10k to 100k in 5 years nothing spent tell me what else made that sort return for no effort
Now back to original thought, what car today is a drooling goota own one??

Ah well good on ya HZ you did well.

I was not in in the same position , looked at a couple of Hk Monaros 186s that were pretty rough before the boom and thought nah wait till something tidier and original comes up and then just that boom sky rocketed over night , but i will get one eventually and if it grows in value good and well but if not i wont care as i will be enjoying it.Let me know if you know of any ? ?

Sadly have to have say wife did good well she was girl friend then, reason i married her lol, she bought it in 2000, I found it though it was in a 4 year old (1996) Unique cars i was hunting for a original unmolstered car, and got desperate, funny enough he advertised it once and kept it, 4 years on his wife said sell, we walked into a dream buy,

Sadly we knew of others we were keen on plan was to go back and buy another after a trip OS but the boom hit and now there out of reach, sorry dont know of any thats cheap any more, there is one but were sitting on fence waitng lol

back on topic,,,,,

and maybe the kids of today maybe looking at original supras and other riceburners as their collectibles in the future just as we did..

kids around here do not care about falcons or monaros or hsvs... they barely turn a head with the younger brigade

maybe... just maybe we are not far from the peak of demand for collectible cars like monaros toranas falcons etc.....

Im not so sure. When i sold my VS SS HSV to a younger guy, about 23yrs old,he came up with his mates to collect the car. When he asked why i was selling,I told them i just got a smick original LC GTR.Well, their mouths dropped and said how they would love one also. One guy was fairly knowledgeable about them also.
The 13yr old across the street loves the GTR but called it a Torino.I just laughed. When i drive it everyone stares at it.
I thought my 1 owner, log booked untouched VS SS HSV might boom later on but decided to sell it.Dont laugh coz i thought my GTS 350 wouldnt boom either and look what happened.Even my HT GTS 253 would be worth a bit now had i have kept them both.NO ONE could have predicted the boom otherwise we all would have kept them and stockpiled up on more of them.
I think the VR GTS will be sought after later on.I have also heard that the VP GTS is pretty collectable also.
Just a footnote, before the boom I just missed out on a HK 307 Picardy red original for $300!!!yes $300,it was a friend of my fathers, complete and road worthy and still registered.

Either way if it were mine the roof would go and it would end up a 2 door with a rag top.

I am in no way concerned with cutting up a car to turn it into something appealing.

It has plenty of potential:-)

I could have bought Norm Beecheys HK in the mid-late 90s for $25k, and the 1978 Bathurst winning A9X in the early 90s for $30k. Seems cheap now, but I also bought my second house in 1998 for $127,000 which I sold in 2007 for $290,000 (having spent virtually nothing on it) when I built the current one, so its all relative.

The only time i use car and investment in the same sentance is to justify a purchase to the missus. There are plenty of other things I can invest in to get a better return on my money.

A bloke I know has a XC cobra and a XY phase three he claims is his superanuation but guarenteed hell be on the pension with those cars still in his shed because he wont bear to part with them.

IMO most of the aura surrounding the HK etc is the fact that they are rare. In the cold light of day I prefer the HQ-HZ shape myself. I say buy a car because you like it, do to it what you like and dont buy one because you think others will like it.

I dont see the point of buying a CV8 etc and putting it on blocks because you think it might be worth something in 30 yrs.

Just my personal opinion

for me I like the HK/t/g shape and if they were cheap or expensive wouldnt change my mind.

I can see why the guys put the new cars on blocks , but there are so many variables as an investment...is it the right model ? , will you need to sell at the wrong time ? etc etc.

I wouldnt do it.

I prefer to enjoy the car anyway.

You should hang on to it, but out of interest, how much?. I also have one, the first black one, number 3 built infact. Was originally kept by HSV and used as a PR car. I wont sell it as IMO it will be a collector. Same goes for W427. I think anything out of the norm and low build will be a collector in future. But like Warren said, could go either way!
