I thought i was onto a winner with Yokohamas Y352 muscle car tyre, only to find that what was once a limited supply, is now non-existant? A couple of places i phoned had prices, but no idea on stock, in that they had no idea if any were going to come in at all, ever.

Aside from these and the BF Goodrich, which aren't here in that size it seems, i'll be stuck with getting the 245's. Still nice, but not as nice as it could be.

i have found it depends on which tyre shop you talk to. U just need to speak to the right person at the warehouse on the phone when at the tyre shop
i have seen recently 265/50/14 Eager, TA and Y352s at some tyre shops.

Apparently they are only doing smaller batches now, and limited runs.
A brigestone guy in WA told me the minimum order was for 2000 tyres for Eagers to justify a shipment.

Yeah, the Yokie 352 is a great tyre, especially in the wet, heaps of white smoke to for burnouts.
They do have a low treadwear rating though.

Seems WA is the place for tyres? Ive called a few places, including Antique Tyres and the old favourite Tempe (wholl put any tyre on anything) but still no luck.

Vintage Holden, did you have your tyres freighted or are you local to that dealer?

Cheers guys.

My brother found this problem several months ago. He solved it by getting a set of 17" wheels and now has a good selection of tyres for his car.

i also heard that bridgestone dealers in W.A were selling eagers, i havent seen any in vic yet
i recently brought a pair of darkhorse tyres for the back of my HQ, size is 235/65/14, i must say, they are quite good tyres, in the dry and the wet, from momory the price was about $150 each

heres a link to a pic of them http://gallery.oldholden...e+quey/P1251086.JPG.html

Jim, i think anything bigger than 15s on classic cars loks naff, so thats no solution!

Ive found that Eagers are available in 245, but vary in cost. Lowest ive found is $275. Will keep looking around. Sumitomo do a 245 that i can get for $180, with raised lettering, but theyre out of stock for the next while. And ive been told to call Antique Tyres Sydney rep to see if they have BF Goodrich in the 245, which cost about $250.

From what Ive heard the big names like Yoko and BFG that have made 265s in the past are only doing limited runs at a time (as stated above) and having watched these tyres on ebay go from ~$250/tyre to $350+/tyre in the last couple months I think its fair to say that most stockist are running low and people are cashing in on it.
My guess is that by the end of the year/early next year theyll do another run and prices will be reasonable again BUT theyll never get cheaper... tyre companies dont have to outlay for tooling or what not to remake this size - its just a matter of keeping the consumers hungry in my opinion.

In the meantime Ill be keeping my eyes out for 2nd handies like I have now, $100 each for 50% tread works out to be cost effective for my daily driver - even if I do miss having shiney, black, chunky treads!!

EDIT - Im with you all the way HQforme, over 15" is rarely a good look on old girls... but its getting to the stage where Im seriously considering a pair of 15x9/10"s for the rear just so I can get tyres pretty well anytime (295/50/15 of course!!!) : )

I actually agree with the point about anything bigger than 15" on a classic but at least the 17"s on Bros XW look like Dragway 5 spokes so they are not entirely out of place.

Largish diameter Minilite type wheels can look OK too so it depends on the wheel that you might select. 4wds with big rims and low profile tyres now that screams gay and totally ruins off road ability.

Ah, probably Torque Thrusts or similar. They are a good style so can look good in bigger sizes. Minilites are also sweet if you get them with dish.

Ill eventually step up to 15s, but i just had this hankering for a widened steelie look with original hubcaps. Cost me a good deal of time, effort and money to get a full set of 14x8. Theyre hot property on ebay. Still cheaper than widening stockers though.

My Jellybeans are 14x7 and ill forever keep them, but 225 isnt enough tyre on the back...even though i know many people put wider than that on 7s.
