Hi Guys,

I have a LH Torana with a 6 cylinder 202 backed by an M-20 4 speed.

Would somebody be so kind to itemise for me EVERYTHING that needs replacing or doing to enable a 253 V8 to be substituted for the 6???? I wish to keep the M-20 in the car.

My thanks in anticipation!

Cheers,
Allan

You may be best nutting out the bulk yourself. Get a pen & pad & start making lists, two of em. One of "things I need to remove", the other of "things I need to put back". You will be surprised how much you can figure out for yourself crawling over your own car. When you struggle, ask a specific question on the forum. Such as: "Will I need to change my radiator to suit the V8 upgrade?" or "Is my current braking system suitable for a V8 upgrade?"
The first three things I can itemize for you are:
Thinking hat, Time & Money.
Enjoy.

The fun part with any engine conversion would have to be the closeness you can get to your own vehicle. For me the actual hobby part of the thinking, tinkering and doing, along with the mates looking and the chatting about it etc. It can be quite social. The great thing about the forum is the knowledge that is here and the number of different ways to do things. Specific questions about a specific part are likely to get a more specific answer.

Sorry guys! I was not trying to sound like a total tool on purpose!

On the gearbox side I am assuming I need to replace the clutch, bell-housing and the input shaft? What about the rest of the gearbox? Do I need to replace the tail-shaft?

I am also assuming I will need to put in a V8 radiator, replace the front springs and shocks. What about the rears?

Does the brake booster need replacing with a V8 example or are they the same?

I am also assuming I need a V8 alternator and to replace the front sway-bar? What about the starter motor?

If I have left anything out let me know.

Cheers,
Allan

Only differences between LH 6cyl and 4.2 V8 that I can remember are:

Diff yoke;
Tailshaft (because of diff yoke);
Input shaft;
Input shaft cover;
Bellhousing;
Clutch mechanism (including pedal);
Clutch;
Brake booster;
Engine mount adapters (unique to Torana V8);
Radiator;
Accelerator cable;
Engine harness;
Front springs;
Exhaust.

I cant remember if V8 also had different rear springs or not. There were probably also other minor differences like battery etc but youd have to look up a parts catalogue to list everything. Also maybe rear wheel cylinders?

put the extractors in with the engine if posable, mine was a really tight squeeze and the gaskets and bolts can be a prick to get in.

Edit - if its a factory A/C car the condensor unit is also different between 6cyl and V8.
