Any thoughts?

Still not as flash as it could be, but I dont mind James Morrison as a host. A lot better than the last bloke. The Holden add was pretty good too

Man
Australia

We went to the taping of episode 2 a few weeks back and saw the wagon - pretty wild old conversion. Big old electric motor in the bay and the back chock a block full of batteries.

The segment for the old Holden ad shown tonight was actually recorded as part of ep 2.

James Morrisons father is a preacher and they teach him to drift on a wet skidpan next week. Pretty cool. And Pizzati can swear like a trooper, even when Morrison snr is around.

I think some of you guys are a bit harsh. It was good viewing, certainly better than Neighbours or Home & Away.

It was a good entertaining hour. We dont get much good car stuff on TV, so dont knock it.

I agree too that James Morrison was an improvement over the other guy. As a matter of fact the show seemed to have an all round better look to it. Some of last years efforts werent so flash.

The other thing was that no one person was the lead presenter, they all had a go. I like Warren Brown the best, he seems to be funny without being forced to. I suppose being a cartoonist, it comes naturally.

Big improvement I thought.
Still not as good as the original, but I like the new line up and reckon over time they will build up a decent report with each other and the show will lift.
Loved the old Holden ad and looking forward to seeing more aussie cars.

Who are they?

The people who own & produce the Aussie version are the same crowd who produce the Pommy show. Thats why they use the same (proven) format, they own it.

If you want a different show you will need to find someone else with enough money & intelligence in the Australian media. I think thats a tall order.

As ive said before, and i still say now, its the best car show weve ever had. And its still poor. Could be worse though, could be "Chrome" or "The Car Show" ...eugh.

The worst part of our version is that because it uses the proven formula it draws direct comparison. So lets compare. Our budget is smaller. Our audience, smaller. Our test track, a series of bloody cones. Our Stig: skilled, but theres no mystery. Our cars are old news in Europe by the time we get them, and we get a good but restricted selection. And our hosts? They pale into insignificance, if only because Jeremy, James and Richard are so amazing.

Every time one of our hosts commentates on the hot lap of the test track i damn near fall asleep. Its quite pathetic.

Still, despite my harsh views, its better than most of the crap on the idiot box!

I recorded it and watched it last night.

I too noticed that there was no "lead presenter" but that maybe because James is new & the pecking order isnt quite sorted.

I also think that it is a vast improvement on the first season although I did enjoy the first season for what it was.

Even Warren changed the "what were they thinking" segment to "what were we thinking" so maybe they recognised the need for some changes. Notice that they walked us through the track which the lack thereof was a perennial criticism of the first series.

James Morrison did a car show several years back that was quite watchable so he already has some hosting cred.

I think that it can work and hope that it does because I would rather watch a new episode of Aussie top gear than a repeat of an English episode and between new Aussie and English episodes and unseen English episodes they can keep it going without repeats for a couple of years until they run out of unseen episodes.
