We are just trying to remove the speedo cable from the back of the speedo (still in dash) and we cannot get it off. It is the type with the steel knurled nut, does not appear to be threaded as it will not unscrew. Wondering if its somehow bayoneted?? anyone shed any light on it?? starting to give us the #hits Thanks Cannon

Well now we wreck, me being a country hick (4 header)and knowing your fetish for wrecking good one owner cars and Gelati. I have a couple of problems with that. 1/ Im on a diet so its no fat Gelati for me. 2/ The Sandman ute is needed on the farm for towing hay bales and carting poddy calves, the calves have more tags than any Monaro club. 3/ The coupe 4 I might let you have for the 540, if I dont use the all wheel drive for the local tractor pull or sand drags.

I think weve strayed a bit from the original question. Wasnt cannon trying to disconnect an HQ speedo cable, at the speedo head ? It uses a quick connector, where you just press the plastic tag sideways & the cable will come out. You might have the wriggle the cable or at least push it inwards before you press the tag, but it is that simple. I think a grinder is a bit over the top !! The last Holdens with a the aluminium knurled nut were the HG series, although it was continued on for LC/LJ/TA Toranas. Dr Terry. Edited by user Wednesday, 13 May 2009 5:59:33 PM(UTC)

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

Thanks Terry, yep it must have been an early cable forced onto the speedo as the gearbox I removed from the HQ was a saginaw. Just gently cut across the ally nut with a fine cut off wheel until it split. Have replaced it with the standard plastic quick connector clip version you mention for the M21. Thanks Cannon
