Is that the car that GMH had at the seventies motor show? If it is I think I have a DVD somewhere at home with some live video footage of it.

Hi Cannon.
The couple of the other pictures I have of it seem to be at a car show and on Oldholden (where I have posted this as well) it has been commented that it was seen at the Sydney motor show.
This picture and the other 2 color pictures I now have of it were taken at Quairading which is in country WA in 1971/1972 - but not exactly sure when.
I would be interested to know what the name of the DVD you have that has footage of this car in it.
Thanks Paul.

Warren or Dr Terry etc have any of you guys seen this car before.

I was talking to Adam tonight who sent me the colour pictures of 308Q and he was saying that 308Q was at Quairading as part of a tour that it was doing of the rural dealerships in WA and that it was late 1971 early 1972 that it was over here.
From memory the Sydney motor show was held in August so the car would have had to have been built prior to August 1971 for it to be at the show and then be here in WA late 71 early 72.
Cheers Paul.

Hi HQ SS,
Youll find a GMH video, said to be of the 1973 Sydney Motor Show, which includes the car at:

http://www.uniquecarsand...rcials_the_vault_20.htm

Best of luck,
Stuart

Thanks Stuart.
I saved a copy and have watched it a few times and I see that there are LJ Toranas there and what looks to be the super chicken van as well. With a look at the inside of it by the looks of it.
LJs introduction is listed as being Feb 1972.
No idea when the super chicken van was about the place.
From the clip I also noticed the signs.
One says Holden the great way to move which looks to have started to be used in 1971.
One says 25 years of Automotive leadership.
This could refer to Holdens celebration of 25 years of Holden manufacture in Australia which was in 1973.
When I did a search for 25 years of Automotive leadership and Holden it came up with the fact that in 1977 Holden
celebrated 25 years of overall market leadership. But this video was not from 1977 going by all the HQs everywhere.
The only other thing from this clip is that the Holden lion has a long tail on the signs.
I have been told that this was around 74 that they went to the long tail lion.
I have also now noticed that on this picture.

It says it is in 1974 and it looks to be at a different show than the video clip.
So it makes me wonder just how long this car was on tour on the show/dealer type circuit.
Thanks again Paul.

We have also been talking about these cars here at O/H

anonymous if you know when this car was built can you also tell me where it was made and by who.
Do you have any pictures or any other documentation other than what I have already posted in my shed on it at all.
I will contact Adam and get him to talk to Les the guy that supplied the colour pictures above to him.
(Les is in this http://gallery.oldholden.../HQ+concept+1l.jpg.html
picture sitting in the front seat of the car.)
To see if he has any other information on it at all.
Thanks Paul.

Hi Paul
That is one cool looking HQ
I wonder if it can be tracked and maybe(i know a long shot) found.
You are the man to do it Paul.
I will send you some photos of my Lettuce Alone later, I think you have the tag numbers, if not let me know. Your websites are great, especially the SS one, keep up the good work.
Come on Paul lets find it, you can do it.

Hi Andrew.
The only reported sighting of it or something that looks like it is in a place called Toronto/Lake Macquarie in NSW
and was owned by an old italian bloke who wouldnt sell it.
I asked for more information but have not received a reply as yet.
I was curious about it before but the pictures from Adam prompted me to post about it to see if anything was known about it by the the Gurus that hang out here.
From the posts I did at Oldholden and here David,Steve,Stuart and Midnite Cruiser (Thanks Guys) all have came up with information or pictures etc on 308Q.
I emailed Jeff Calvert from the Holden Customer Assistance Center about 308Q etc last night and he replied today.
Quote.
We regret there is no one employed at Holden from this era who we could refer you to for information on these cars.
Which is along the lines of what I thought I might receive back from him but at least he replied back to the email.

So the L/A has arrived has it or is it still on its way.
I have the details of your U/V and a couple of others you looked at but that is all I think.

Since the last group email I have added 2 more SSs to my records so I am up to 153 cars now.
I have a few more pictures to add to the photobucket account as well, which should bring us real close to 1000
SS related images there.
For anyone that is interested in looking at our collected HQ SS pictures etc they are here.

Cheers Paul.

Hi Paul
Got photos of it on the weekend. Painted and ready to be assembled. Its been a long drawn out process but worth the wait I think as its a matching numbers car. I still look all of the time in papers, internet , car books but have not seen very many LAs. The stuff you have collected looks great and I am amazed when I think back 2 years ago when I first caught up with you and you were just planning this site.
Keep up the good work and will work out how to send you some photos as i am a bit of a klutz on this thing. look again and if you dont have the details I will send them home. find that 308Q Paul. It has to be out there. If it is an old Italian bloke I will get my dad to speak to him in the old language and maybe see what we can do.

There was a HQ coupe in Newcastle in the 70s and 80s with nearly the same paint scheme as that. The guy that used to own it was in Beresfield area. I know his brother. From memory he bought it new with the paint scheme on it.

Hi Andrew.
I just sent you a email re 308Q and a possible lead on some more information on it and your SSs.
If I do come across 308Q you can be chief negotiator ok.
HK1837
Thats interesting to hear, I wonder if someone looking at 308q at a show decided that they wanted a coupe to look like that or a dealer liked the look of it and painted one up like it.
308Q coupe something else to look out for.
Classic oz wreck
This was the full post I got about 308Q and Toronto on O/H
i have seen a car that is either that one or one almost identical. it was in a backyard under a tarp, fairly rusty, sitting next to it was one of brockies torries with channel 7 on the roof and other logos down the side. it to was pretty rusty, they were in toronto( lake maquarie) and owned by an old italian bloke who wouldnt sell them.

I have still have not heard anymore about it from them so if it was a wind up or not I have no idea.

But it is not the first time I have seen and heard about a car that is rusting away and the owner not wanting to sell it.
From my experience with people like this they do not tell people about there cars at all.
I am not sure what it is like where you are but over here in the country areas with some of the farmers,
if you just rock up and ask to look at or buy cars they have just sitting on there property you are told to get off the property and dont come back.
As a example one of my brothers has been in negotiation with one farmer for all his cars and a heap of GTS parts for almost a year and a half now.
The only reason he even got to talk to him (The farmer) to start with was that he is known has a holden nut and not just someone looking for a profit and he was introduced to the farmer by a mutual friend.
Cheers Paul.

Hahahahahaha
Mate you have to have cash to negotiate. I have spent all of mine.
Maybe we could start a trust fund and collect donations to "save the Q"
Maybe a government grant would help can you ask Colin next time he comes to dinner.

308q is parked in the carpark at Double Bay Woolworths. Elvis leaves it there when he does his shift as a check out chick. A mates cousin who drives a taxi told him.
