Hey guys!! Purchased a "rare" 179HP, stripped it back and the block's getting sent away for acid dipping and blueprinting of all the internals as well as balancing!! I'm going to bore it out regardless, what do you fellas (and gals) rekon would be an appropriate size for some good horsepower?? I know for a fact she has the steel crank, something i was hoping for to be able to handle a kick in the guts every now and then!! Im also chasing a new head, roller rockers and cam, any input would be valued!!
It's going in a UC by the way!

Cheers
Keith

IF its getting bored, go 192ci, a good size for durability, and she'll rev like the klappers! Go the Yella Terra spec head - not entirely sure if they come with r/rockers, but it'll certainly get you moving! To suit, use the XU-1 cam for good street manne

I hope you didn't pay too much. There is nothing special about a 179HP, except that it is the first of the 179's ie EH. Personally, if you are looking to bore it 0.125" to a 192 I wouldn't do it. Use a 186 at 0.060" instead, and pinch the steel cra

i run a 179 bored to 192 with blue motor crank revs to 8000 with no problems yet if you are after a high performance head Email me as I removed a high comp from mine when I fitted the turbo the head would go well with tripples and xu1 spec cam
cheers

If you've got a 179 bored to 192 with a 'blue motor' crank you've got a 208, not a 192. I've assumed you mean a 202 blue motor crank. Those brain cells have died long ago, but if any of them are left I thought 'blue' 3 inch stroke cranks (ie 173) were not

All pre mid 1967 red motors had a forged crank, so most 179's have one. The cylinder wall thing is a myth. Dr Terry is of the belief that this comes from casting inconsistencies in the old engine plant. The HP head combustion chamber is the same as all ot

Too easy!! Ive ordered pistons already for her, i will be using black rods (Starfire), i suppose the saying goes "there's no substitute for cubes", and im not gonna deny that, i simply rather the 179/186 as its more of a revvy motor than the old red moto

Fair enough. On the blue/black 202 thing, apart from water jacket holes in the top (must be redrilled in three or four places for a red head) the only significant difference between a red 202 block and a blue/black block is the colour. Everything on them

I'm with you on that one - Queensland is one of the hardest states to get a car on the road due to strict roadworthy guidelines (especially with ADR27A), however mine passed with NO emmission gear and a 350Holley (the 202 that is), and im assuming if i tu

The 'scariest' thing about a UC is they are one of the best handling cars ever built in Australia, so going fast around corners doen't feel like 'fast'. They are basically (suspension wise) an A9X in UC clothes. Remove the heavy 308 lump, and replace with

Agreed there!! I recently replaced all shocks/springs/bushes and it handles better that my old girl's new commodore, it is firmer around corners while still being comfortable to drive!! Thats what people neglect to remember when they bag out the old UC'
