Hi all.
ive got a 138 grey and the alternator died recently, and i managed to drain the battery before sorting it was the alternator that was kaput not the old battery.
anyway... what would people recommend i fit in place of the existing Alternator?
I had a sparky wire up one- for some reason he put in a nissan sunny one?- so any suggestions?
or should i just go for a early 70s one? Thanks in advance, Joel

EJ 138 Grey motors didnt have an alternator originally.
Either you have a generator or someone has fitted some type of alternator from a later model.
If you are a stickler for originality have the generator rebuilt. If your car is a daily driver or it is modified, then just fit a Bosch alternator with an integral regulator. They are relatively cheap to purchase, new.

Thanks dr Terry. yep when i was putting it on the road i couldnt find someone who was willing to rebuild my generator.
its my daily drivers, so i might opt for the bosch one.
Woul any particular model be better than others?
the rough pricing ive got from bursons was around the $300+ mark, which seemed a bit high.
Thanks Joel

Supercheap had brand new Bosch BX series ones for about $200 which is more reasonable.
If you want a brand new one and you cant get a Bosch for about $200 look up your local Ingram dealer as they made accurate copies of Bosch alternators for a reasonable cost.
If at first you dont succeed then skydiving is not for you. |
