Im looking for a HG GTS,preferbly in Indy Orange,factory V8 but may consider a 80737 car with a V8.
Ok,Im looking for a car to hop in and drive away.Must be clean and original as possible.
Im aware of prices as many of you are but my budget is $35-40.Ive seen a few around that mark so i think i should find something i like.
Ive seen the Blue one on ebay, very original by the way,but im holding out for an Indy one.
Im in Sydney but will travel if I have to.
I welcome and appreciate any comments or advice anyone has.
Thanks.

Hi Absinth, thats a beautiful car.Its good that your keeping it as it has sentimental value which money cant buy.

Im set on Indy Orange as i have a mint Indy LC GTR with the stripes and its the hotteset colour in my opinion.

That one on ebay should show me what i can get for my budget.Every car is different i know, but it should be a good guide as to what i should pay so lets see what it goes for.
The Blue one on ebay for 50K is very original but hasnt sold and has been around ebay for a while.

Im also keen on the Indy because I remember looking at one 15yrs ago that a pilot owned but the interior was Indy orange Houndstooth with Indy door and quarter trims, very rare combo and I have regretted not buying it.$4000 back then but a lot of money for an apprentice back then.

I know this isnt going to be a quick process but ive put the word out so lets see what happens.

Also does anyone think my budget should get me something like the one in the picture shown?

Thanks for the replies everyone.

How about a Indy Orange 350 Manual 15Z Trim in fantastic condition, even has the factory production broadcast sheet. I doubt if you could get better. Anyhow think of a number that you cannot jump over then double it and I can place you with the owner. Maybe its still like being an apprentice and out of reach but hey its real and available.

hello mr pink,

surely theses cars are not worth anywhere near the figures you are saying.
the proof is in past sales, even in good times they didnt bring as much as first anticipated.
to the gentleman that is chasing a car in the above posts, they are out there, just be patient.

Yeah it sounds nice but as pointed out,I cant see the value in them to be worth that much.I had one as a daily drive,a genuine 350 by the way,and they do take some getting used to.Im not jelous, good luck to them, but if someone wants 100K plus, they can keep them.

The HK on AMCS that went for around 50K is worth every cent.It was better than new!!!!

I think 40K or thereabouts is a fair price to pay, lets wait and see

What these cars are worth is very subjective. My view on worth I think most Aussie so called muscle cars are over priced. The biggest offender is obviously a phase 3, how does a 4 door small block Fairmont with a borrowed US shaker become worth more than a big block Shelby Mustang? or a 81837 Monaro become worth more than a Corvette big block 427 with 435hp? The Americans would laugh at us.
Anyhow if you have one you can ask what you like and if someone wants to abuse his bank account so be it.

Have to agree with you there Pinky. With a budget of 35-40K I would much rather this 73 Firebird with 400 auto currently on Ebay classifieds for $34999. Better looking and better handling than a poxy old HK,T,G Monaro.

or this genuine 67 RS 327 Camaro for $44000

or this genuine 68 GTO with 455 and T400 for $45000

or this 70 Pontiac Le-Mans for $31000

with a far better interior than a sh!tty HG

but if you really like HG style seating this 64 Pontiac convertible for $30000 is nice

Id even prefer this 70 Mach 1 Mustang for $35000

American muscle.... better styling, better handling, better interiors, bigger engines and better value.

Those cars look good but have no meaning for me.I done the bodywork on my mates Mustang that has won many awards and my other mate has been building, restoring Mustangs for ages so im familiar with the American cars.
I want to get back into something I drove when I was in my early twenties.Maybey im having an early mid-life crisis i dont know.

I still think an Indy HG coupe looks way better than those US cars but thats my opinion.

My favorite one was the Mr Whippy HG 350 Monaro giveaway.I filled out 100 or so entries but no dice.I still have a fair few posters of it though.

hey Rallystripes I admit I like our monaros ( and generally aussie muscle toranas and falcon gt included)but i do also like many of the US Muscle cars.

Good on you anyway. We all have different tastes.Otherwise the whole muscle car scene would be pretty bloody boring and we would be fighting over just one model.

You dont need to justify why you like a Indy HG monaro.Sure you have some good reasons and if you want to share them good and well if not dont feel you have to.

Good luck with the search.
