As in WB commercials didnt use the 11W* prefix like Stato & Caprice, they just had W* for their prefix.

The statement "Statesman not a Holden" is just that.
The name of the car is Holden, like Falcon. ie HQ Holden, XA Falcon (no one uses the term XA Ford). The Statesman was not part of the "Holden" range it was marketed as a GM car, all the ads state " see your GM dealer" Holden advertising says "see your GM-H or Holden dealer".
It does not have Holden written on it, except on some parts.
The parts book state "HQ Holden and Statesman parts catalogue"

*This may well be true but in my HJ Statesman brochure it reads The all new Caprice model from General Motors -Holden`s

Cloudy, thats Warrens point. The Statesman DeVille & Caprice were made by GM-H (General Motors-Holden), but they were not badged as Holdens. They were marketed as being separate from Holdens.

Another silly slant, The export HQ Chevrolet Statesman.
Badged as a Chevrolet, and the parts catalogue has a bow tie on it. Saw a nice one up close years ago on Holidays in NZ. Metal 350 fender emblems, bow tie on the console lid where the lion normally is and round discs in the door trims with bow ties on them positioned where the window cranks would be on a manual window car. American cars sometime do the same thing as they all get the holes for window cranks but blanking discs inserted when it gets electric glass. Where Holden only puts the hole in if it is manual glass.

Dr Terry.
Crickey doc read the description where does it say Statesman? The title is for people to correlate with, the fact is it is the same body as a HQ Statesman but exported as a Chevrolet. If I didnt call it a HQ Chevrolet Statesman in the title would people know what I was on about? Think of it Chevrolet 350 sedan how many can get a picture on the car? There are about 100 cars in the car park. Now how was my grammer and punctuation? And dont you dare tell me the nose panel was different! Edited by user Wednesday, 3 June 2009 12:17:27 AM(UTC)

so back on topic, are the statesman 308s are the same as any other 308s, (of the same era)
why would they want to mark them with a different number is it to do with the statesman not a holden thing?

Hi Dave, I heard they were made from more accurately balanced components. So Statesman owners received a better class of engine than the Holden plebs! |
