Not even ten years ago was my mother waiting on the housing trusts waiting list for a house in Whyalla (A desert town who pipe their water all the way from Morgan on the Murry river) and when a house finally came up they said she had to wait two more weeks before she could move in because they had yet to remove the concrete water tank (and the bloody heater). Mum went off and insisted they remain but housing trust said all tanks and heaters were being pulled as the oppertunity arises as they no longer deemed these items nessesary nor their maintinence costs justifiable :-O

Outcome was that the old girl had to sign some sort of waver to declare the tank and heater were her property and responsibillity for any and all maintinence was hers with the condition that she have these items removed at her own expense upon her vacating the premises or theyd be billing her for the clean up.

If goverments had brains theyd be..um..dunno, couldnt imagine that.

Anyway, back to here in Victoria...Id sugest ya all seriously consider getting a tank but stuff washing the car with it, id be drinking it mate and using that recycled filth out of the tap to wash my car, lol.

i have a 5000ltr tank, i agree all homes should have tanks, even if there small ones, it seams pointless letting all that water run down the drain

What a joke. That council are dickheads.

I know what your saying though. My parents just built a new home in the marina at Pt Lincoln. SA. Quite a flashy spot. Same thing. He was not alloud to install one. So he put one underground. (they will never know) lol. They have sinced alloud it, it seems as there is tanks popping up everywhere. Or maybe thats just the residents making thier own rules.

Basicaly if the conucil told me to not put a tank in i would do it anyway. what a joke....

Dusty.... I think i just realised where your name came from? Whyalla. not to sure why you would want to catch red water =P haha...

Housing trust. gee now thats another story!

I agree with the washing your car thing. run your whole house on rain water. Your taps will be happy! never leak again. Your hot water system will not stuff up every 12 months also!

Best of all it tastes good!

you put a tank in here in my area you have to registar it. then you get a rebate that only covers the plumbers bill to say it complies. It wont be long that the councils will realise that suburban houses are storing water and will charge you for that right like the do too the rural farmers for having dams to keep their animals alive??

I thought them dam taxes never saw light of day ?
Im 10 kays out of town and have no mains water here, just our water tanks and a dam but as far as im aware, we dont have any water taxes. (Ill ask the Cook and will edit later if im wrong).

The only reason i can see as to why councils dont like water tanks is the potential losses in water usage revenue.
