I want to hear from anyone that has used aftermarket HX-Z Sandman decals as to the quality of them. How useable, accurate etc. As I understand it there is the guy in Tassie that has the digital printed ones and the other variety that is screen printed as per original. Also since this is my thread I not going to cry if Frank/bosko etc want to pick on my grammar or post bunny pictures, Ive got big shoulders as well as my ass. So if you are offended just move on rather than snivelling to the moderators. Edited by user Thursday, 11 June 2009 3:30:43 AM(UTC)

If its printed in Tassie theres every chance it will read SANDMEN.
Make sure theyve spell checked it and ran it past a Guru first.

if you call jayson you will get the following, first it will be...ohhhh its ummm on the drawing board, then bout 2 weeks, then its too hard.
i have found a guy here in melb that is good, he did the decals for all our cars, as well as the superoo taxi stripes and they are mint, and an easy deal, "not ohhh", "umm," "well yanno," "its hard, " "all that crap," just called him, asked for them, and they arrived, no sweat

=)
Im not even going to try to get my grammer correct. =)
Anyhow.
The diferance is the quility obviously.
Digital printed even when done on the best vinyl are still not upto the standard of screen printing. Digital ones will look more pixalated. The colours will not be as full. Also there is limited numbers of colours available for the digital ink compared to the ink uised when screen printing.
Both the HQ/HJ sandman stripes and also the HX/HZ stripes where screen priinted from origianl. this is why 30years later there are some cars still on the road with them. (just)
Claims that the screen printed ones will not last because bumper stickers are screen printed it false. Use a cheap vinyl and get a cheap decal.
You will find that the current seller of the HX/HZ Sandman kits (screen printed) Is not doing them anymore. they only have limited stock (and colours) left.
We have been collecting colour samples from NOS decals for a while now. and we have got hold of a NOS set of decals. We will be producing them very very soon. They is a couple of grand worth of setup costs and many hours of art to do but wont be long. We are also hoping to get the cost down a bit compared to the current seller of these screen printed kits. Obviously we can not match the price of a digital printed kit as screen printing is much more expencinve.
At they end of the day. You pay for what you get.
Cheers (jayson) |

OK so the digital ones are for the budget people as they lack resolution. Now the current guys with the silk screen decals are retiring and Jason is starting up.
Jason how close are your colours and screens to original? Could yours be run along side NOS? Say if you put a HX fender Sandman decal on next to the mint original stripe how close would your colours be?

MrPink.
We are matching as close as possible. (obviously) But to be honest if you had a NOS decal and put ours next to it i expect it be 100% size wise. Colour. I would sugest 90-100%. all depends on the colour combo. Most of the colours we have been able to get NOS stripe samples for. But there are some that obviously we have not got and proberly never will. So all we can do is go off old pictures. Not ideal. But its the only way to do some of the less popular colours. The reds, greens, blues are no worries. How have all these other sellers done them? Pics/sales brosures no doubt.
Cheers Jason |
