I test drove drove an XG ute the other day. Nice, straight, manual and a good price. 260,000 odd kms shown. Anyway, when I accelerated, the thing spluttered, coughed and stank like fuel for a second or two, then proceeded as normal. Same thing happended when I went into roundabouts in third gear, when I slowed down it started playing up. Anyway, I didn't buy the car but I am interested to know what the problem may have been... I didn't get a chance to talk to the owner as it was at one of those car market set-ups.

It'll be either plugs, leads, fuel pump, fuel filter and possibly injectors.

My manual EB2 had a similar problem when I test drove it. Even worse the engine completely died when I put the headlights onto high beam.

The problem turned out to be that one of those plates that acts as a battery terminal (buzz bar Ford spare parts
