You still dont get it??????

Would you be so upset if this VR SS Commodore was chopped up like the Monaro? Its 16 yrs old now and there are plenty at the wreckers, its just an old SS that no one really wants or cares about and is the same age a HK Monaro would have been back in 84. In 25 yrs time your kids will be gob smacked that someone would chop up a classic VR SS....
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/1...an_W0QQitemZ300325254317

Would you be upset if someone bought this VT SS and then stripped it to put the dash, interior and running gear into their VR V6 ute? Nah, its just an 11 yr old Holden.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/V...an_W0QQitemZ160345609937

In 84 a mate and I picked up a baby poo yellow HK GTS 327 for $1200 in average condition, crappy colour and had the poxy GTS dash with no tacho and no flutes in the bonnet. We drove it back from the sellers house to my parents shed and stripped it of the parts we wanted for his HK ute, the unwanted body and bits were dumped at the side of the shed. A bit later I found a great condition metallic blue HT GTS 350 for $1500, one owner and all books. This was stripped and the parts used in my HG p/van build up and its body went next to the HK at the side of the shed.

My mate wanted a GTS bonnet and HT,G GTS dash for his HK ute but the local wreckers wanted $200 for a dash and $250 for a good bonnet. We found a nice condition bronze HG GTS 350 for $1800 and cut the dash panel out of it to fit into the ute along with the bonnet, the engine, 4sp and diff were sold to a guy for $1500, the seats, console and GTS guards were sold to another mate for $500 for his HG Premier and we now had 3 wrecks at the side of the shed.

A few months later all 3 bodies were dragged down to a creek that ran through the middle of my parents 10 acre property and filled with rocks and junk to partly dam up the creek... as far as I know they are still there.

During the rest of the 80s the mate and I would buy every HQ,J,X GTS we could find for around $1000 (preferably 308 4 sp) and would make around $500 stripping them and selling off the parts. What was left was dumped at the local tip. Sandman vans were also very cheap as the van craze was over, HQ,J particularly as you would get an extra $200-$300 for the GTS guards, we also cut down a few and converted them to utes as we could make around 2 grand on them.

One of my cars I wish I had kept was a 76 model VK 770 Charger I bought off a girlfriends father in 83 for $1100, it was a mint condition 770 one owner car with all books and came with air, vinyl slide away sunroof, 318 Fireball V8, 727 auto and hotwire mags. I had a lot of fun in that car and it drove and handled far better than a Holden, I sold it in 85 to another girlfriends brother for $1800.
Ahh the 80s, back when picking through the rows of H series Holdens at Park Ridge or Kingston wreckers on a Saturday (sneaking extra parts out in your pockets and toolbox) and christening your latest car at the drive in on a Friday or Saturday night was the norm......

This running and registered 6cyl HG GTS had 19 bids and didnt even make $20,000 so if people arent willing to pay 20G for this why would you pay a cent for that piece of crap that would probably cost at least 25G to get back on the road and that is doing most of the work yourself and on the cheap.

try buy the same GTS 327 for that money. HK GTS might be soft in price, but XT GT much softer. (admittedly you can ask what ever you want for a car, but HK GTS 327 have been selling for more than this)

alchupanibre, you will have the advantage in 20 years time of telling people how you saw lines of VN - VS Commodores at the wreckers, crushed because they could not sell bits of them. Just like I saw lines of HK to HG GTSs, some stacked 4 high, in much better condition than this one.

Warren

Warren,
i agree, that XT is over priced and just a 4 door cab, and they are soft as well in my opinion.
i can buy right now, as i type this, a 327 HK for the just under what the XT is for sale at, and i can also get a genuine 2 owner XT GT in absolute original condition for $30k, so i dunno, but that particular XT is worth $45k tops, and the Monaro, maybe $65k if they are lucky.
as has been mentioned in here before on many occasions, you can ask what you want, but you also have to get it.
have a lok at the for sale section in the forum, you will see a HQ GTS coupe for sale, they owner wants $25k, still hasnt sold it. now, if they were worth so much, why hasnt it sold??? simple reason, they are soft, and as much as i love them, they are good value because they are worth nothing

Pull ya head in ya punce, its a poxy old 6cyl Monaro. You could buy a good condition registered HK,T,G Monaro for less than $2000 in the early 80s, they were just old Holdens back then and worth bugger all. Its just an old farm hack/roo shooter that some guy has found on a farm and is now trying to make a quick buck.... good for him.

Ive seen far better cars than this one chopped down the same way by farmers once they have upgraded to later models, back then farmers rarly traded in their used cars, they were either parked in a barn, parked in a paddock or ended up like this.

I wouldnt be ragging on the guy selling it, its the morons bidding up to $6000 for a piece of sh!t you should be ragging on....

let him alone Absinth, ya big cyber bully, he is only a kid, he dunn know about the old days, just because you and i remember stuff, doesnt mean everyone does, or even has to understand

When I see things like that I wonder how they survived the crusher when they were worth nothing in the 80s as that particular example would have been worth more in scrap 20 years ago than it was as a car. unless it only recently developed severe rust.

If I was cashed up enough, I would be happy to pay out up to 10K for it, only for sentimental reasons, my old man had one exactly the same, in 1990 he traded it in on a LJ slant 4cyl, then kicked the bucket a year later. but thats just me.

80569K pretty harsh comment for someone whos handle is for a poxy HK Prem.
