I have a pair of 14x8 steelies that im trying to put on the front of my HQ Kingswood, to compliment the deeply dished ones on the rear. Due to the shallow offset they foul under turning load on the upper control arms. Only lightly, but any fouling is of course bad.
So i'm looking at approx $100 per wheel to change offset, or, illegal as they may be, a 3mm wheel spacer. I don't think grinding away at a control arm, even a couple of mm, is a good idea!
I can get one lasercut from sheet steel so it's precise, and at 3mm it'll provide clearance whilst meaning the wheel still sits over the spigot in the hub and the wheel nuts are still deep on the thread.
Aside from legality, and the people who always frown upon them, can anyone give me a genuine reason as to why a setup like this wouldn't work?
This isn't permanant, just a case of free versus $200+ sounds a little appealing right now whilst i'm preparing for the respray.
Cheers. |

Standard fitment to HK V8 manual and LJ XU-1 with Sprintmasters. Rare Spares sell them for 5.25" PCD.

As long as the wheel nuts still go on with all of their thread and as you say the wheel is still on the spigot then legality should be your only problem.
If at first you dont succeed then skydiving is not for you. |

Haha, im only putting 215s on. I like the way they sit in the wider rim, looks nice on the front as the rear is quite baggy with 245s. No power steering, but thats half the fun!
Looking at the Rare Spares spacer, its not a suitable PCD. Could probably redrill. |

wheel spacers are illegal on any car they werent standard on, like the A9Xs for example, if the spacer is small and the wheel nuts go on all the way you should be right , no one will ever know that they are there, only problem you might have is if you have to take the car for a roadworthy or a switched on mr plod notices (not that likely)
