i have a 253 in my van thats very tired. i just bought a recod standard 308 from a mate. under normal driving and mostly on week end cruise. will the 253 trimatic stand up to a stock 308?

It is the same box for 253 and 308. So the answer is yes.

Same physical case but not the same box. 308 versions have more clutch plates to deal with the increased power. It will opperate fine until he applies too much power, then I guess it will either slip or wear out at a greater rate.

The Tri-Matic box wont fit if the 308 block has a Chevy bolt pattern, which most 74-82 308s have.

Yes, there are also simmilar differences between the stock holden 6 trimatic and the EFI version. Apparently the EFI version is more heavy-duty than the standard one and has more clutchplates internally. According to some of my mates, the EFI trimatic is the same as a V8 one because the EFI put out almost the same power output compared to its predecessor the 253 blue motor, and a standard trimatic wouldnt stand a great deal of punnishment from an EFI 202. I dont know if this is actually true, but this is what everyone is telling me. I stand to be corrected!.

thanks for the reply guys. thanks Dr Terry. it is an aussie pattern. i was hoping for a chevy pattern so i could bolt up a VN T700. but a reco 308 for $200 and its a QT block. 20 jan 76. goes well for my HJ van.
