Who and what is Tripple 8??

I take it you are talking about that pathetic 2 horse race (where you cant tell the difference between the horses), V8 Falcadore racing.

That will make a huge difference, theyll just have to change the headlights and tailights, oh and maybe a stick on badge here or there.

Itll just further prove that its all about the team running the cars, not the "car" itself. I still dont mind V8 Supercars as a racing category, and as a lovers of real cars we need a premier V8 category of racing (i say it should be drag racing) but it has nothing to do with Ford vs Holden. See the same with Nascar in the states.

He said premier, see they all crave a premier.. slap.. arghh.. ok.. Im back...

Would it not be better if we had a true V8 comp open to all rwd V8s, probably, but joe blow dont buy Audis & Beemers the red & blue teams would not cope with having their bottoms spanked every week either.

I dont think we hate racing, the vibe I get is that we are over the V8 supercar formula. Going back through history you will see that all formulas have changed periodically, we have had several changes here in the 45 years that Ive been interested.
Maybe they need to allow more brands in or change the rules or invent a new formula, greater minds than mine know the answer.

I LOVE motorsport, but love variety. Its that simple. Id rather watch drags, off-road racing, sports sedans, offshore powerboats, or pretty much anything.

What i DO love about one make racing, or restricted racing like V8 Supercars, is watching teams eeeeek out that every little tiny bit they can. Nascar is great for that, changing track, changing car, driving style, etc. Sprint cars too.

But you used to watch the endurance events and see people come from a lap down to win, or break on the line, crawl to the pits and charge like a madman ovcer 6 hours. Now its one giant sprint. One slip and youre gone.

V8 Supercars suck, its like watching paint dry and just as exciting. Supercars at Bathurst is the same as dumping Aussie Rules and taking up Grid Iron.

Its about time we got back to the essence of Bathurst, bring back Production car racing as it once was. As built straight from the showroom floor to the race track. Now that would be something worth watching.

I think V8 supercars suck for reasons other than the cars and the racing. The result of every race has little to do with a drivers ability or the car. It is heavily dependant upon (often un-necessary) pit stops, luck and the (in)descretion of seemingly inconsistent race referees. I used to sit down and watch a whole Bathurst race. Now I dont even take interest in any V8 racing, even who won any particular race.

Hi Guys.

Too many negative comments here. They are getting good crowds, so somebody must be watching them. My only complaint is that they are too quiet at the track. Take the mufflers off, that will improve it 200 %.

Ive been watching touring cars since the 60s & I agree that it has become a little dull, but they are tinkering around the edges. The soft compound tyre used in some of the sprint races this year has helped considerably.

I think the real problem is that the performance of the cars is too close, any car in the top 20 could win. In years gone by it was only the top 5 or so.

These teams all spent huge $$ trying to win & its just the best combination of car, engineer & driver on the day who wins. At the moment its 888 & HRT on top & daylight 3rd. In the 90s it was DJR & Seton etc.

Its a free country, if you dont like it, watch something else, there is plenty out there for everybody.

Dr Terry.

Yep, you young guys have missed out in that regard, but my neighbour who is well into his eighties reckons he has lived through the best times, so I guess we all look back seeing just the roses.

I really dont know what the answer to this particular dilemma is. Car racing these days needs lots of cash, investors want tangible returns and control. There must still be a quid in it otherwise it would be a memory.

Exposure is the name of the game and 2 makes of nearly identical cars should bring exiting racing, couple that with the pace car pulling the field together and producing all that lovely advertising clumped into viewers screens, but for me it falls flat, sameness squared.

Like Byron I used to watch Bathurst from go to whoa and remember lots of the great moments along the way such as Bill Browns rollover, Brockys chats to the viewers while he was breaking lap records in the wet, KBs big ad for Ch9 on Ch7, Dickys rock, the blokes who always went close, heartbreak, victory, it was sweet it was exciting it was unfolding right in front of you... mate you were hooked and glued.

Now I dont watch it because it is not as exciting anymore, the more ad than show thing kills me and the pace car takes all the grit out of it, drivers work hard for nothing... sorry, but I do want to see my hero win by six laps, change cars if his carks it and I do love the staged one two finish, hell, I even agreed with Jims description of the assembled throng after Godzilla had done the deed.

OK, Ill go have a bex a cup of tea and a good lie down.

Was that the channel 9 ad, or the channel 6 ad?

Characters like KB are sadly missing from the field today.
Its all serious business with no time for laughs anymore.

Much as I was a Brock fan in the 80s, I couldnt help but laugh at Dick Johnsons racecam comments & jokes along the way.

Being a young one i would like to see some older style racing, i think the Holden Vs Ford is a good idea though. To me seeing a Toyota in there would put me of V8 supercars. when i was about 9 i remember watching Skaife run around in his VX, winning:):) that was good to watch.

I also have been watching since the sixties when it was known as Touring Cars.I used to watch every race, and when I got my license go to the tracks and see it.

Now its over regulated, has enforced pitstops, and pace cars. The pace car is only an advertisement for a car manufacturer, usually european crap.Taking the mufflers off would in no way entice me back to the track,or garner support.

I loved watching Bathurst, but now with the crap they pass off as racing to the next generation,I have been robbed of that.Todays production car racing is never televised,so how do you watch that? Its far better than stupid car racing.

Cheers.

I watched my second Bathurst in 92 was it? Saw Skaife and Richards "win" in the wet thanks to the red flag ruling. Sadly it was one of the last great moments at Bathurst, although there have been some highlights since, but not of the scale of times past.

I wish i was around for the glory days. But for now i can pacify myself with some Biante and historic racing.

Production car racing isdull and tedious these days. Not because theyre not fast, but because theyre so slow compared to the race cars that were meant to relate them to.

Back in the day, the bathurst cars were pretty much the fastest sedans you could see, and they were production. Now production racing is like watching turtles on a bad day, when compared the many, many sedan based classes of race car we can watch.
