Its just an early Pagewood 6cyl HQ LS. Youd have to check the body for evidence of whether it was a 3spd, trimatic or 4spd. Ill have a better look later to see if all tags belong together, but they all look about right.

Byron, just a quick question.

How can the body number 4534-S (4534th 81137 out of Sydney), be higher than the chassis number 4378S (4378th HQ in total, out of Sydney).

Dr Terry

Thats why I said "about right...". They are always close, but rarely (or never) the same. Those arent that far apart (150 or thereabouts). AFAIK chassis numbers are allocated when the engine and chassis come together, or are at least allocated together. Maybe this one came together earlier than others that had to wait for something, like a batch of 350 engines? Or it could also have the wrong ADR plate on it.
Ive asked Ben to have a look at others recorded about the same time and see how well they fit.
I also thought that HQ Pagewood BODY numbers are a consecutive number for all HQ, not consecutive for each luxury level + body style. This started some time in HG from memory. I might be 100% wrong though - all of this is out of my head. Books are at home!

Hi Dave being an 6cyl LS it will have a 202 and as it has ADR 9 it will be an auto and the standard diff for that combo is G95 3.36
The colour is Baroda Silver Met and the trim is Olive Green vinyl

Early Sydney chassis no are usually within 100 either side of the body number, I have one recorded where the difference is just one.

Is it true that the HQ LS six is the rarest Monaro with only about 60 odd being produced?

HJ 6cyl LS. 81 manufactured, but 337 in total. Probably the rarest single Monaro entity at approx 212 would be the HQ XW8 if you count it as a stand alone model (ie not dilute it with all 4 door GTS). Probably next after that are HQ 1837 (402) followed by HG 1837 (450 approx).

I have 17 6cyl LS recorded mostly early builds, they seem rare after late 72 bit like 6 cyl Statesmans. The LS as a whole were the best selling model of the coupes.

I have a 75 HJ coupe sitting in the shed to restore after I finish my Morris. Originaly it was 253 four speed and Jamaican lime green.

Any idea of how many 253 four speed HJ Jamaican lime green coupes made?

If you get engine specific, as you do, the HJLS is still the rarest of the lot with the 6 at 81. Even the 308 and the 253 are less than the 212 XW8.

Hi Dr Terry, I got this all sorted out from Ben Stewart when I passed on my details. The number on the body id plate is the number of the body shell in the model program. It is sequential for all HQs. It will be quite close to the number stamped into the body on a Sydney car. The number stamped into the chassis rail can be a long way away from either of these two numbers, either before or after. I know of a car that has a really early VIN and chassis number but a relatively high body number and stamped number. It just depends was the answer from the guru.
