I did a similar thing in a HK. I had a external lift pump to suck the fuel out of the tank via the original fuel line. Then into the swirl pot. Then to a high pressure pump to the motor and back to the swirl pot. Any over flow I routed into the fuel filler spout. Just tig welded the hose fitting into a hole I drilled in the pipe. Whole system works a treat and I did not have to root up a good tank. If I ever want to go back to original, I only have to replace the fuel filler pipe.

Hope this helps.
