Ive just scored myself a nice YT head. It's a high comp head with big valves. They're been de-shrouded around the edges of the chamber. I know it's common practice to notch the block correspondingly, but as i plan to put this head on my bottom end (rebuilt, 40thou over, standard comp pistons) will there be any adverse effects of not having the notches, or will it mean i just don't get full advantage of the work done to the head? Oh, and since this head uses adjustable rockers, so the pushrods are guided by the head, will i need different pushrods, hardened ones, as opposed to stock 202 units that ran with fixed rockers? Kind regards, Peter Edited by user Friday, 14 August 2009 2:04:14 AM(UTC)

I dont know about the notching?(or dont fully understand i suppose)but as for pushrods, get hardened ones if you can, because of the force nature of adjustable rockers, I think its best.(jmo)

the notches are to ensure your valves dont collide with the deck as they open. check the clearance with clay, its a simple process to cut the notches with a die grinder. use head gasket as template and cut at 45-60 degrees

Cool. I wont attack the block while its still assembled so i guess ill rip the thing apart. Probably going to put my cam timing back to standard anyway. Cheers. |
