bt1 engines were manufactured just for police cars there cop engines so certain bits are bigger and forged and few things placed differently different sized manifolds but apart from that there basicly a forged vn v6 engine so rare is my little secrete buddy

Another urban myth that is beleived to those that know very little. I was at a party once, where this guy was telling me about his new VN V8 ex cop car that he had just bought. Procceded to tell me that "the cops had messed up and left the chip in it, cos it can cruise at 100 in 3rd, then when ya flatten it it will smoke the tyres"

But what can ya do but smile and nod....

lol its the truth actually "smile and nod" the block is a ex cop engine cause i lifted it out of the bt1 cop car still with the cop loom and cop lights in it im not sayin there all ex jak engines but mine is and im not sayin it makes it faster it is actually no faster than a normal vn v6 jus stronger metal mate different rollar covers and mabye a bit higher than a vn v6 apart from that and the grey iron stamp on the side there identical and if u knew anything u would know that in melbourne ten years ago the bt1 was the only undercover cop car they had in the northern suburbs and there was six of them i jus got the engine out of the white one that used to patrol epping they guy who told u it had a chip in his to make it run at 100 in third is a dick head idiot that dosent mean he had a cop engine that would of ment he might of had a cop loom cause thats wat controls the revs and the chip goes in the computer u dont solder it to the block

BT1 is just an option number relating to extra fittings & equipment seen on cars supplied to the various Police departments around the country. With VN or VP Commodores the engine fitted was either a stock V6 or V8. Some V8s had the HSV upgrade, which meant a bigger air intake box, bigger exhaust, a knock sensor fitted & a chip to suit, the V8 itself was not modified in any way.

BT1 station cars, with V6 engines were bog stock in the engine but many still got FE2 suspension & larger brakes.

This BT1 myth is almost as big as the HP block in EHs or Canadian block Grey motors in early models.

my VX (PC1 pack) was a "detectives car" has a standard V6 engine, but i does have some good gear, sump protector, fe2 suspension, lsd diff, speedo has smaller incruments and finer needle, speed limit alert disabled, 7 inch standard rims welded all the way and made from thicker steel, a button on the dash that kills all the lights inside the car, theres some more stuff but thats all i can remember atm

Those BT1 V6s must be different if they have a distributor.

Thats right Mick. If you add it all up :- 20kW for the special distributor, 20 to 30 kW for the MAF-less tune, 20 kW for the OTR air intake, 25 kw for the cop exhaust & of course the 30 kW cop chip. You can see how they can easily break into wheel-spin at over 100 km/h.

Why am I driving an ordinary old VT V8 Calais when I could be in a BT1 V6 police pack.
