Hi all, I bought an original air con set up for my HJ about a year ago now and finally have everything apart and ready to install it all BUT Im not sure which way around the condensor goes? I can work out the front of it by the odd bent fin and impaled bug and I figure the hoses run up the drivers side but if anyone could post a pic for me I would really appreciate seeing just how it's supposed to sit. Any engine bay pics of where the hoses run would be awesome too!!! I basically got the whole lot in a big box from the seller. I believe it's all there (he even had labelled containers for the fixings) but I'd appreciate some visual aids in laying it all out... please. Thanks heaps void ___________________ Why are you reading this, you should be looking up there^^ - HJ turbotonner looks and goes like a sneezing rhino on heat! - Edited by user Saturday, 22 August 2009 7:28:17 PM(UTC)

Hoses go on the passenger side, you will see where they come through. I can get some photos by monday if no one gets them earlier. Look at this link, it may help. http://gallery.oldholden.com/Petes-Monaro/Cheers, Pete. Old Holdens never die, they just go faster. |

Got them from a bloke in Toowoomba, goes by the name of oinks308 on old holden. His email address was [email protected] Front one fitted straight up but the rear one needed some trimming. With the condenser, I guess it could be installed upside down and the connections would be on the right side. Cheers, Pete. Old Holdens never die, they just go faster. Might be better off with a condenser from a VK.

The problem then would be that you have to cut & shut the 2 hose fittings. The larger hose (for the vapour) always goes to the top. The lower (liquid) outlet is always at the bottom. Things are different these days with crossflow type condensers, but an old style condenser doesnt work as well upside-down. Dr Terry |

Guys - I really appreciate all your help and discussion with this, thanks! Ive really never taken any notice of the 202 a/c setups because Ive rarely seen them! ..and to be honest I just thought the vk set up would be on the same side as the h.. series. The vks have the compressor on the drivers side - do the older 202s have them on the pass side? or does the hose just cross over from the cond. to the comp.? Sorry to have no idea but Im having trouble finding pics on the net... I might go have a scroll through the members rides section. Again, thanks for your help. ___________________ Why are you reading this, you should be looking up there^^ - HJ turbotonner looks and goes like a sneezing rhino on heat! - Edited by user Saturday, 22 August 2009 7:37:23 PM(UTC)

HQ 202 had the comp on the pass side, so did the AC kits I used to fit to VC-VH Commodores. I can scan & email some of the pics from the HQ factory manual if that would help. Dont think theres too much difference twixt the Q and the J under the bonnet.

Void, VB, VC & VH commodore 6s had the A/C mounted low on the passenger side - both the Harrison (Delco comp) and Air International (Sankyo comp) were like that.
In VK, they shifted the power steering pump over there, and the airpump on the carby 6. All VK 6s got the A/C mounted up high on the drivers side - same location as all VB-VL V8 commodores.
If I were you, Id copy the VK arrangement with the condensor, hoses & pipes.

Thanks Mick. So you reckon from the firewall back keep it HJ and firewall forward vk? Sounds like a plan.... you dont happen to know if there are any incompatabilities between the two - as in, will the hose connection from vk mate straight up to the HJ evap?
So the kit I have now for HQ-WB (I presume) has the comp mounted above the alt? Either way, I have so much room on the drivers side Id really like to mount it over there if possible.
Thanks again all.
