and it sure does give you a idea as to why the engine number jumped around so much in the build dates of vehicles. Going by the amount of engines here I assume that it is for the beginning of the red motor range in the EHs. Cheers Paul
look like HD to me as some are a different colour, must be X2 ones and the intake manifold looks like cast iron type. Look at the water pump wheel is that EH to HR type. Does not look like they have the 179 etc decal on them. Looks like they are reading head numbers ? Look at the thermostat type housing is that HD or EH ? I don't know why there would be different colours. AFAIK this pic is from the early EH era.
I have a B & W copy of this add at home & they mention the guy is trying to find engine no. M14xxx which co-incidently is an S4 no. That dates it Sept 63.
The large water pump pulley & the thermostat housing are also uniquely EH.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0 |

OK AL. Here are the breakdowns on your boxs, M20 17G5 cast date is the 17th of July 1975 and is just right for the T707442 serial number. M21 2KO cast date on the case is the 2nd of October 1980 and T921042 drops in spot on for the 2K0 cast date. Cheers Paul.

quote "High voltage. Your numbers seem to have thrown a spanner in the works, because with the few date codes I have from around the same time as your date code I would have expected it to have a serial number of around the 809xxx region. The only other box I have with a serial number up near the number of yours is from around the mid 1981 time frame."
Hello Paul I have been in contact with another A9X owner and have some numbers that are for the nov 77 era . T809... seems correct . MIne is way out so I would assume that I am reading the 1 as 7
Looks like a 7 though but with your info it must be from 1981. Have you noticed the large number casting on the casing . MIne is an 8 and the original A9X 1977 box has a 7 . Could it be for the decade? i.e. 7 for the 70's 8 for the 80's?

Hi High Voltage. I replied to Norm About this last night but here is the gist of what I sent. The T number seems to be for at least the " Aussie" 3 and 4 speed gearbox's and looks to run sequentially from there introduction to there end of production. Trimatic serial numbers do not seem to run in sinc with these numbers from the few I have compared to the manual numbers. (they are a couple of years out as such.) The earliest I have on record so far for the aussie boxs is T9307 with a 16th March 1968 cast date. The latest is T964856 with a cast date of 9th March 1984. I still do not have a lot of details from that time frame but T796090 is 18E7 (may 77) T809xxx T810xxx looks to be from the November 1977 casting time frame comparing it to the few I have from then. T943xxx looks to be from between March and August 1981. T929935 is 27C1 T944190 is 13H1
The large number casting on the casing looks to just be a mold number. Cheers Paul.
