Hi every one hope you can help I have a VT 6 cylinder and it is missing. I have so far changed all 3 coil packs the plate underneath, plugs, leads, fuel filter and used a bottle of injecter cleaner in the tank. Every one I have spoken to and info on the net says the crank angle senser is on its way out. If so how hard is it to change. Hope someone can please help.

hi david, dont take this the wrong way, with all the bits you have changed, dont you think it would of been better to pay a mechanic for a quick look and scan, at least lead you down the right track. crank angle sensor normally work or they dont ie wont start, very rare to give a miss as such. to change the sensor you need to undo the balancer bolt remover balancer then the sensor can be changed put balancer back on and tighen bolt up. pete, mechanic.

As petaus has suggested, you have wasted a lot of money that could have been better spent on a technicians time to found out what the real problem is. As I often tell my customers, throwing parts at a car is a very inefficient method of diagnosis or repair.
If you have a single cylinder misfire (you havent actually described the precise fault), its highly unlikely to be caused by the crank angle sensor. You dont need to replace all the parts, its easier once youve diagnosed which cylinder is at fault, to swap coils leads or spark plugs. A lot cheaper too. Have you done a compression test or pulled the injectors to have them looked at ? You could have anything from a broken valve spring to a injector air leak. The poor old electrics get the blame all of the time.
Injector cleaner in a can is a bigger con than oil additives & snake oil.

Before you go pulling it apart, pull the plug off at the C.A.S and check for signs of moisture on the pins. As above, the C.A.S usually works or it doesnt, though they can be effected by heat and stop the car, and, then, after a cooldown, work again.

hi david, i think from memory the early ones were a interferance fit, early vn, laiter ones come off with a bit of a lever, if my memory is right??? i bought a purpose puller for the job it,s one of the best tools i ever bought. if you try lever behind it becarefull not to brake anything or damage the rubber in the centre off the balancer. i recommened a puller of some sort. where are you located???? im in brisbane, if you let us know where you are so one here might be able too help you.

Hi guys just a follow up, boy had fun and games trying to remove the harmonic balancer. After about two hours of my self and a mate trying we gave up and I called a mobile machenic for help at $75 he had the job done in about an hour and half he had trouble getting it off as well as last person used lock tight "amazing". when finished the miss was still there so he put the scaner on and adjusted differant things up and down. restarted the car, the miss was gone but said cam angle sensor not crank this time so dont know It has not missed a beat since so touch wood it keeps going if it plays up again I guess I try the cam angle sensor anyway thanks for all the help
