plastic bead or walnut shell blasting can work with alloys, don't know who would do it in melbourne tho. I have my own little sand blast kit bought at supercheap for $30 or so run at 100 psi. not enough to cause damage and a bit slow but does the job cheap. and I can control what happens.

Just heard about a guy here in Adelaide who now does "dry ice Blasting" I thought it must be a joke. But after some searching on You Tube, it seems it is the ducks guts. One showed them using sugar sized particles of dry ice to 'dust' smoke damaged books, cleaned them up really well without damaging the books. Then they started striping old rusty parts and ripping the paint off a car body. (using much bigger particles of dry ice) Seemed to work better than a lot of sand I have seen, plus you would never get the heat.
Only downside is that it would be as expensive as hell.
