hey dudes a mates putting or going to put straight cut's in his red 308 and he want's to know if there's any mods to be made and if so what are they,is it hard to do.
don't know myself never had them always stuck with the chain

No Mods that I know of ,I put one in my car (403 olds with a chev 400 geardrive),easy as (well that wasnt but anyway)...I just lined it up with paper between the gears ,tighten it all up ,then remove the paper.

He is aware of the noise they make and the fact that theyre not necessary on street motors?

Other than that, as was mentioned, lash is very important for good operation and life.

i know people who have fitted straight cut gears simpy for the noise alone, apperently "its cool" and makes your car sound tuff

Besides the floating idler gear causing stupid amounts of front bearing/cam wear, and the noise, and the fact that a chain does a far better job of damping harmonics, gear drives on street cars that are expected to last 100k miles instead of regular tear downs, are great and a worthwhile investment to any engine.

helical cut gears are even more fantastic, if you can put up with excessive thrust bearing wear, and cam end float, or maybe an "aerated" timing case if the correct button isnt used with the correct clearance.

Go for it man, gear drives are hell cool!
