Admittedly it was in pieces in the back of my Cross8! Still, circulating the track that it was designed for over 40 years ago.

That track is awesome. I took heaps of photos holding the camera in front of the windscreen as I drove around. The sound of the Cross8s 3.5" exhaust sounded great reverberating off the canyons of concrete. I can only imagine what a full blown Group C A9X with side exiting exhaust must sound like.

Must have been magic. I doubt pictures come close to doing that place justice.

I went through a mountain pass the other day. I may only have a warm 202, but with practically no mufflers it was roaring and echoing beautifully. I near wet myself at the thought of something with real grunt pounding along the same road.

Try driving around the oppisite direction so much difference. Maybe an urban myth but the late great Peter Brock once showed his co-driver, cannot remember his name but a 2 litre event, the oppisite direction as the race direction. So this guy drives around the circuit for a week the wrong way. Official practice starts and the silly Pom realises he,s been had!
ANY group C V8 sounds great around Bathurst. I miss the characters of Bathurst, the back markers, guys running older cars, there is now no underdog to cheer for.P Brock the good guy, Allan Moffett the black hat,not being able to watch the front runners lap the slow cars.
You won,t see any of these V8 supercar drivers pushing the car up pit lane and what about those tilt tray trucks! V8 supercars is like watching most American sports you only need to watch the last ten minutes because the safety car will close the field up.There is no committment to have to watch the whole race.
The name "V8 Supercars" ,was,nt that the headline that Evan Green used for the article on the horrors of factory race cars that led to the end of Bathurst specials. How times have changed. When the sponsership is big enough the media stays quiet.

We did it in 07 in the wifes EH sedan with the kids sliding on the back seat. Even though there was a copper on the straight pulling up a car with drum brakes was an interesting sensation. Also doing the three on the tree gear changes was a real workout.

You have to take your hat off to the boys that did it in 64 in the Armstrong 500.

Next year we get to do a lap or two in the GTS350 whislt on our way upi to the Monaro Nationals. Should be fun

I was a pit crew member for the ex JPS 635 BMW in 87 at Bathurst. It was the year it was a round of the world touring car championship. I was the spare parts guy through the week and a fuely on race day. I still remember going to the JPS camp and asking Frank Gardner for bits. Sometimes you just take things for granted. RIP Frank.

But the EHs raced at the Armstrong in 1963, not 1964.

Dr Terry.

Thanks for picking up the typo Dr Terry, but most people associate an EH with 1964. I should have said

YES! bring back the old type of racing. changing wheels the old way. using street tyres. in the old days it was great to watch them try to hang on to them. Brock said there should be an in side service track around it so as to keep the race fair. not this tilt tray rubbish on the track, boring. you could dig a tunnel under the top side of the hill to get cars back to the pits.
