What gears have you used? You have to use a spacer behind the crownwheel with some gearsets on a Chev 10 bolt. Remember how HQ-WB 10-bolt uses a different hemisphere for 2.6 and 2.78 compared to 3.08 and lower? In a Chev 10-bolt its a spacer for lower ratios (lower than 3.36). I also think you can buy aftermarket hemispheres to allow you to use the lower aftermarket gearsets without a spacer so maybe this could be your problem too?

well something must of been changed, the two carrier bearings shims are not the same, were they put back in the same spot? these are changed to adjust backlash i.e one might be 183 thou the other 196thou even arseing this up would not give you that much backlash is it the original carrier, gear set and housing???? as hk said some have spacers. like a early explorer go back retrace your steps look at what is new,you will find the problem. the machines that make the falcon and commodre diff are going to china from what i hear, i cant wait for the first few batches of diffs to arrive lol a gearset is as only as good a the person on the lapping machine. pete.

Pete, I think you would find with todays technology, all gears are CNC Machined to the closest of tolerances and do not require any lapping compound of any nature near them. Times have changed, they spit thousands out in a day, all within 000.1 of each other.
