I would also like to know the correct code for HT engine bay. As you all know its as easy and same cost doing it the correct colour as the wrong colour. I somehow think it might be low gloss black 00990. Would inside boot area be the same? I want to redo my ht soon.
Dave.

I remember asking this of Warren or Ben ages ago. From memory the base is Warrigal black semi-gloss but each day the leftover exterior paint was added together mixed with the Warrigal base so it varied greatly. In the bible Ben and Warren call it GMH chassis black. Some of the very early or special (as in press or display) HKs had gloss Warrigal black engine bays, not sure if this happened with early HT or HG.

Yes, what ^^^^^ said.

The underbonnet colour varies wildly in some model series. Ive seen EHs & HRs where they have a distinct blue or green tint to the basic black.

At the factory when the colour in the vat became unacceptable they just added more black to the mix.

A good approximation would be a charcoal colour in a semi-gloss finish.

That is the same explanation given to me years ago. My father was a paint specialist with GM-H through the mid 50s until about 1981. Great fun to hear so called gurus say they know the specific paint code. Even pointing out that a colour in an engine bay is not right when it is an untouched original specimen.
There a some knobs out there.

Yes, I think the term guru is often over-used.

Its original definition was that of a spritual leader.

As Gospel from the Original Engineering book from GMH it says that
"GTS and Brougham" Engine Bays are Warrigul Black and all other models are the slops colour people talk of . It has an specific name but i cannot think what it is at this moment .
This info comes direct from Ben Stewart of recent talking with him .
So now there are no grey areas on this one .
By the way "ALL" models still got the slops colour in the boot apparently though .

Thanks to all for your input. Now it appears I have some correct information. As I said its no harder doing it right than wrong.

Thanks everyone.

So it would seem to be impossible to reproduce the slops black.

Would any one have a paint code for Warigul Black?

And what gloss level would be appropriate?

Cheers

Jeremy

Warrigal is 599 GMH combination (TRIM line), Dulon 06459 (PAINT line). Semi gloss, but looks better in gloss.

To do the slops colour my father always said in his panel shop in the day , they used black mixed with a poofteenth of grey primer . Which dulled it and made it just the right grey and patina .
If you want to do it perfect you could just add some grey to black and a an absolute tad of flatting base.
If you have a painter mate he will be able to do it .

Hope this helps .

cheers James
