Yes, i like Volvos. I plan to make an 850R my daily when the HQ gets a V8, and i dream of building a full-house pro-street 240.

*prepares for verbal assualt*

Anyhoo, went for a spin in a mates small-block powered 240 sedan. Crappy exterior, pale blue, stock everything inside and out... nice 302, worked TH700, locker equipped Dana diff (standard diff i think) and custom exhaust.

This thing might just be the most fun car i've ever been in. And it's competition includes a 600hp pro-street RX4 feature car that my mate built. But something about the cheek of this Volvo, and that V8 roar, just made my day.

It also rammed home something i'd read and considered. You don't need 7million HP like most people think you do in a street car these days, with blown late-model donks everywhere. This thing would be lucky to have more than 300hp with good torque, and it was a screamer. Great noise, tail-happy, black tracks all over.

It's kind of settled down my ambition for the motor in my HQ :-)

no verballing from me ... the 850R is a very nice piece of machinery. Ive never met an unhappy Volvo owner yet. I currently have V70 daily driver, an FC Special sedan, a WB Kingswood V8 ute and an Escort Sundowner. All are great and no, I dont own a hat or a cardigan with leather elbow patches!
The 240 sounds a hoot to say the least and youre dead right, V8 fun can be done without breaking the bank.
A few pics would be nice!
