This thread is for deceptive eBay listings that are "loose with the truth" or plain wrong or deceptive.

It is NOT about scam listings for Monaros etc that most people can spot from a mile away, items that receive a higher price than what you think it is worth, or funny items. It is purely to help stop people being misled into buying something that isnt what it purports to be.

Please dont paste huge long links, if you don't know how to make a link then just use the item number. Post reasons why it is deceptive and if you are not sure then say so.

First cab off the rank.
Item 190337750870 seller gezz72 is selling "HOLDEN HK HT HG GTS MONARO PREM BROUGHAM 2 TONE HORNS"

This is actually two single tone low note horns for Belmont/Kingswood/Monaro/Monaro GTS

Currently at $112 with a few hours to go.

They are just standard horns. Models above had an additional hi note fitted for dual horns (standard on GTS, option on others), Premier/Brougham had a different low note altogether.

Heres one! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayI...ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

This is a supposed "stroker" engine, which according to the seller "had so much torque it ripped out the transmission and IRS"
and broke the corner off the block.

Apparrently / HM GEM engines can get that much power out of a 5 litre with stock injectors, manifold, throttle body etc.

The Q&As are interesting too.

Exposing the rubbish on ebay, one listing at a time!

Haha, that gasket one is brilliant.

I think hes heeding the advice of Bob Kotmel, a columnist for Street Machine. His idea was to list these cheap, crappy parts on Ebay with extremely accurate descriptions, as the seller has done. Name the supplier, the faults and everything you didnt like. Thereby outing the horrible product without slander or risk of legal trouble. After all, youre just following Ebays rules about accurate item description, right?

But the question still remains why people try them in the first place? I know we cant all afford top shelf stuff, i certainly cant, but ive never, ever bought any of the real cheapie stuff.

From what I can piece together there is guy in NZ who is selling a heap of Procomp stuff on trademe (NZ form of ebay). I bought a "Holden High Volume Oil Pump" about 12 months ago from them (branded as procomp). When I went to fit it, after packing the pump (it took ages to feed oil) and having it run for a little bit it blew the supplied filter to pieces. Luckily I was there to shut it off and not driving down the road. Soon after I pulled the heads off to rebuild them and upon startup there was no way the pump would pick up oil. Got rid of that pile of crap and it was the best thing I ever did. Tried contacting the seller about this and was told it was my fault. Never again will I rely on procomp for core engine stuff. In saying that, I brought one of their electronic dizzys from Rares and after getting it tuned it is running sweet. Hopefully their other stuff is better since I also have one of their gilmer kits to fit.

The same procrap people again..
Read this thread http://www.fastlane.com....topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=21952 if you want to see how they treat you when you question them over false/misleading advertising, sending incorrect components and blaming you cause they dont fit.
Then try and get a refund out of them. They need to be shut down.
The biggest misleading statement on their ads is that the part is "exactly" the same or an exact "copy" as the "name" brand stuff. They use wording such as "complete Kit" Leading you to believe that the kit would bolt straight in etc. The kits never do, they need massive machine work, bolt holes in the wrong spots parts supplied not correct for other parts supplied etc.
The name of these procomp ebay sellers are. A T RACING WORLD, DIRECT ENGINE PARTS, SYDNEY SPEED SUPPLIES and a couple more I think. They are all the same people. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THESE ASSHOLES. YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!!!

If I want advice on what parts are good to use I just talk to my local workshop and ask what brands they use , after all they have to warranty their work.

procomp have had a bad wrap on most forums including here, see here http://www.fastlane.com....topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=21952

it is getting quite well known how bad there products are as well, so hopefully that starts affecting there sales

just remember they go by the names procomp, at racing and sydney speed supplies (sss) these are all the cons, just different names

The v and p on each end of the numbers mean the car was stolen the chassis number and the body plates where removed when the car was recovered (or the car was badly smashed at some time and the panel shop forgot to re stamp the number) so the Victorian police issued it with an id for registration and identification purposes only.
it also has a vb vc 253 engine number

Ahh this HJ coupe is back....if it sells at the asking price of $44750, consider BOTH my cars on the market, if the offer of $35k and a VK (so total value of $36k!) is legit, he would be mad not to take it.
