Got a 304 motor out of a Vp, obvious signs the motor has been played with. But just got afew questions!
-does the vp 304 come with a double row timing chain standard -Also stamped on my bottom end crank is 308???? is this right, the block is a 304 block so has someone put a 308 crank in it or does is come with a 308 crank and have a smaller bore to make it the 304? anyone share some light on this???

304 crank has smaller stroke, but every one I have seen still has 308 on it.

The crank is still the same crank as used in the 308 - hence why 308 is cast into it.
The machining is what differs - theres enough meat in the raw cast crank, to allow the big ends to be machinced offset slightly closer to the mains, hence shortening the stroke by about 1mm.

I believe it was when touring cars went to GroupA rules, so to compete with the same motors in under 5L class, they went from 308 to 304 cubes, which i think was 5.044 to 4.95 litres, or something like that. |
