my 173 is a joke. plain and simple. it will only spin the wheels on bitumen sometimes, i dont know why (only tried twice)..but what i need is to do one big ass skid, preferably with clouds of smoke pouring off the tyres. my problem is that i dont have the time (or money) to get a new engine, or do pretty much any modification to the engine. does anyone know a way i can muster up enough out of the mighty 173 for this me to achieve this?

err this is illegal on the roads, so if you get caught ypull be in a bit if sh1t, so ill assume your talking about a burnout comp or the drags
the news is all bad for you though, the old 173 isnt really up to the task, but you can make it happen, however you will be pushing the engine and could do some damage, so if its a daily driver dont bother
ive had standard 202 HQs disappear in clouds of smoke before, the way i did it was i smeared a bit of oil on the tyre, put my foot halfway on the brake rev it up and drop the clutch, once started it should keep going

For a 173 I only know one way(WELL 2 WAYS)...Drip feed oil on your back tyre.Or replace engine with a BIGGER ONE!!!!...LOL Jim in adelaide Edited by user Friday, 9 October 2009 7:26:21 AM(UTC)

A skid? That would be good brakes locking the wheels up. A skid is what locked up brakes do. A real motor does a burnout. That is tuning the wheels with enough torque to brake traction. Think of a skid mark in your undies. It is sliding a moving solid object (tyre or turd) across a basic plane (road or undies). So do you want to do a burnout or a skid? The 173 wont do a burnout, it does not have enough torque to break traction. Wait a few years and get a 308, 5 litre, V6 supercharged etc. http://www.ehlimo.com.au/ |

I used to do monster burnouts in my 173 HQ. Destroyed numerous sets of tyres until the gearbox gave out.
Here is how it is done. Drive into a gutter so the back wheels are sitting in the gutter, stall it up and get the wheel to start turning, it will come up the gutter and sit on the edge of it, now hold it flat to the floor and smoke will start to billow from 1 wheel. keep this up for as long as you like, (either the tyre will blow, or mine caught fire once, damn metal belt in the tyre)
Anyways, when you get bored with that, or the tyre blows, go in and do it in reverse, the other wheel will spin and smoke up. This gives you a chance to blow both tyres.
I know this sounds funny and all, but trust me, it really does work.

"peter_smol" - Skid and burnout is the same thing to me and most other people in existence, get a brake clamp and block off the rear brakes, lube up the wheels and then have a dip, itll struggle though in my opinion.

I thought you were after more power? So you just want to know how to do a burnout then?
Do as barbygrub just said but put the steering wheel on full lock first...

Skid and burnout are not the same thing. Drag cars do preliminary burnouts, not skids Track cars skid off the track, they dont burnout off the track. http://www.ehlimo.com.au/ |
